Default Eshop disappointment

I only recently purchased a 3DS. I am enjoying it so far but am disappointed with the 3DS Eshop. It seems like Nintendo isn't putting much effort into this. Why doesn't Nintendo re-release more SNES or N64 games? We all saw the success with the 3D re-release on OOT. Why not Majoras? I saw Sonic on the Eshop and got excited but was quickly let down when I saw it was the gamegear version. Who would ever want the gamegear version over the genesis? Its awful. Why is Nintendo putting minimal effort into the portable side of gaming?

Dude you are complaining about the eshop and what about me ? Nintendo doesnt support my country and I cant even use my PIN code numbers from the games I bought because it has absolutely no effect. I cant be a member of the Nintendo club. They dont ship to my country... I cant even play online games. There is no Streetpass here etc.

My point is, be happy about what you got !
Majoras Mask will be released in the future for sure, dont worry. They know that we are all waiting for it. If you want older games, maybe try some DS games without the 3D effect. It works perfectly on the 3DS.

Nintendo does seem to lack in the eShop, I mean we didn't get Earthbound for YEARS (though that's due to legal problems as well)

Enjoy the gems they have put out now, but I do share your sentiments. Hopefully Nintendo will correct their past errors.

Which gems are these? Are there any games on the eshop you would recommend? I downloaded vvvvvv, Megaman 2, and Gunman Clive, which are good, but other than that, Im not sure what to look for. All I'm seeing are tons of Mario games and Pokemon games that I'm not interested in and many other obscure games that I'm unaware.

Added after 3 minutes:

Sorry to hear about that. Yeah, I'm thinking I should look into DS games as well. I want to get Chrono Trigger.

Cave Story
Steamworld Dig

Mighty Switch Force 1/2

There are a few that you can buy that have received high praise. I personally recommend you snatch up Pushmo/Crashmo/Phoenix/Mighty Switch Force

Those were the games that I enjoyed the most

Everything would be fine if Nintendo would quit rewriting the book when it came to their online store. Everytime a new system comes, they create a new store instead of writing the same store into every piece of hardware...

If it was like it should be, then EVERYTHING you bought for Wii, would work on 3DS and Wii U... But its not. I don't think it is a bad thing that Nintendo is focusing on NEW titles for the 3DS rather than worrying too much about old games on the eShop because people keep buying 3DSs. Now Wii U, is another story. They are BARELY putting up Wii U eshop releases AND barely Wii U retail games... NIntendo really needs to figure out what they want to do with the Wii U. It can't survive on Nintendo alone, as they are seeing...

its because it takes time and effort to make ports from their classic games. nintendo has been working on a software that could take so of that off. so is probably beeing use right now but we won't see it until months later.

Technically the Genesis version of Sonic is on the eShop. It's called 3D Sonic the Hedgehog. Just a port of the Genesis version with 3D, and a few visual/control options. For whatever the price it is (I think it's like $6), it's worth it.

On the eShop? The 3DS is not powerful enough to emulate SNES and N64 games. You get the systems you get on there because those are the only ones that can be emulated correctly on the hardware.

At retail though, a Majora's Mask remake has been hinted at for a while so that could be happening.

As for eShop releases, there is some fantastic stuff on there man:

AiRace Speed

Jett Rocket 2: The Wrath of Taikai

Retro City Rampage: DX

ATV Wild Ride 3D

SteamWorld Dig

Nano Assault EX

Aeterno Blade

HarmoKnight

Yumi's Odd Odyssey

Pushmo/Pullblox

Attack of the Friday Monsters! A Tokyo Tale

Art of Balance TOUCH!

Fun! Fun! Minigolf TOUCH!

Mighty Switch Force!

Mighty Switch Force! 2

Mario and Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move

Steel Diver: Sub Wars

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies

Super Little Acorns 3D Turbo

Fractured Soul

Senran Kagura Burst

Mutant Mudds

Urban Trial Freestyle

And with that, Yanikun wins the interwebs.

While the 3DS VC is indeed lacking (although there are Sega 3D Classics to partially make up for it), the 3DSware side of things is definitely better. Hopefully Nintendo will release some form of the Unity engine for the device to facilitate the porting of more games to the system.

It all depends on what their goal is. Ideally, they should go for speed and compatibility instead of trying to force the games to look exactly like they did on a real SNES. 100% accurate emulation won't happen on the 3DS or even on a Vita. It's barely possible on a powerful PC (and by accurate, I mean that they can emulate everything from the hardware down to the last detail).

There are other issues such as the use of special chips on several SNES games.

In regards to N64 games, they're probably going to remake a few just like OoT and Star Fox 64. And sell them at full price.

So far, we know that the 3DS can run Genesis and GBA games just fine.

Actually, the ARM11 is pretty powerful for that kind of stuff. I checked the specs for the cpu(cache count, branch prediction, pipline length, etc) and discovered that it's pretty close to the Wii. Plus, the galaxy ace could do it perfectly(albeit, with some overclocking).

I love the eshop, there are now many fantastic exclusive titles with it. But I do have a slight disappointment.

I fail to believe that the 3DS is not powerful enough to run SNES ports. As AJ7_3D, it's pretty powerful little piece of hardware. Who cares if the ports run exactly the same as on the original systems? GBC and DS games don't look or perform exactly like the originals, but that doesn't mean they're not still a grand lot of fun to play. The thing that really gets me is the fact that A Link to the Past is not on there while it's sequel A Link Between Worlds is. (And Earthbound). Instead we have to buy a Wii to play it, which isn't an option for a vagrant like me. They'd probably make more money than the GB ports, too.

There is actually a petition online for this that I believe deserves it's own thread. I'll post it soon.
