Default Question about saving game data and game sharing.

I looked to see if there had been any questions like this and couldn't find any, so forgive me if this has been asked already.

Me and my brother both just got a 3DS. We're both pretty new to the systems as the last handheld we used was the Gameboy SP. We both bought Pokemon, him getting Y and me X. We wanted to beat the game and then trade so we could beat the opposing game as well, but we noticed there is only one save file for each of them. Basically, my question is, is there a way to save game data on an SD card or something so that I can safely delete his Pokemon Y save data while he still has it saved somewhere else so that he can access later? Or is it that there is only one save file and no way to back that up and restore it later, so if I wanted to play a Pokemon Y with save data on it, the only way would be to delete that save data? Thank you in advance for any help!

No there isn't a way to save games in the way you described, but there is a way to reset your game while keeping your Pokemon and items. If you use pokebank to transfer your Pokemon to the bank (MAKE SURE THEY ARE NOT HOLDING RARE ITEMS LIKE MEGASTONES WHEN YOU TRANSFER THEM TO THE BANK) and breed /catch a box or so full of Pokemon and make them hold your rare items then trade those Pokemon to your brother, then have them trade your item Pokemon back to you after you restart

Any questions, just ask
