lol don't waste money on a DSi, what's the point if you already own a DS? The 3DS is the obvious choice here, it has an amazing library of games.

Except for collecting systems I don't really see a reasont to buy a DSi.
The 3DS has backwards capability, so you can play any DS game. Plus is has all the features the DSi has. That doens't mean the DSi isn't a nice system. it's rugged and has an amazing battery life. However, it's dated. DS games are not as easy to come by as they used to.

As everybody already mentioned, there's no real reason to buy a DSi if you already own a DS Lite. The 3DS is backwards compatible, so it can play DS titles and do everything else a DSi can (and more). I say buy the 3DS and keep the DS Lite if you still want to play your GBA games.
I'll agree that the DSi is a nice handheld, but you'd be missing out on all the new games that are coming for 3DS.

There really is no competition, the 3DS is the superior system and the one Nintendo is currently producing games for. If you get the DSi now, you'll miss out on everything the 3DS has to offer.

i have a DS Lite, DSi, DSi XL, 3DS and 3DS XL. yeah i collect.
The 3DS is the Ultimate one. The XL is better. why? DSi took everything the DS did and made it better by adding camera and multimedia features everybody loves. And the 3DS, can do them WAAY better, plus play AMAZING new games, Good examples are Super Mario 3D Land & Resident Evil Revelations. I Can agree the 3D is just a gimmick, but the games are new, and think about it. You ended up buying a DSi, and playing your original DS Games on the DSi is better (in my opinion anyways, better screens) But then you see all of those new games like Pokemon X/Y, Or even Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, or Super Smash bros for example, and then your gonna be like: "where is that DS versions? why didnt I get a 3DS?" Plus playing DS games on the 3DS is pretty good too. Plus miiverse which is great and the eshop - which does not exist on dsi. So your friend is wrong. he might be a nintendo hater. thats fine. just get a 3DS and make him jealous. and if you can get a 3DS XL, better screens larger and more beautiful (again, personal opinion).

I don't think the DSi is much better than the DS. Any game that works on the DSi (except downloads) works on your DS, while the 3DS has access to a lot larger selection whie still being able to d everything the DSi can do. Plus the 3DS hnge has been re-tooled to not break so easily (you'll get used to it quickly) If you don't want 3D then there's always the 2DS which is identical to the 3DS except it's not stereoscopic or folding.

If you get a 3DS, you'll be able to play all DS and DSi games as well as the newer and upcoming 3DS games. More games, more fun!
Also, if you want a cheaper alternative, you can consider the 2DS. It's the same thing as the 3DS, except there's no stereoscopic 3D and the system isn't foldable. However, it still plays all DS, DSi and 3DS games. Last edited by Gaborg; 05-11-2014 at 02:23 AM. |

3DS can do what your DS and the DSi can do, plus it has it's own features and library of games the DS family doesn't have.
The 3DS was a waste of money, like, in early 2011, where the was nothing to play except for Street Fighter. We now have so many must-have games to truly call it a "waste of money".

The only thing you get from getting the DSI is the camera basically, I think. Never had one. Can't play anything you can't already play on your DS Lite. But there are TONS of GREAT games that have come out for the 3DS over the past few years that you'd be missing out on.
I mean, even before the 3DS was announced, there's no point in getting a DSI if you already have a DS. But now, no question.
