Today I was sitting in the metro on my way home from work while playing tetris(3 rounds tetris is my ride) when suddenly the screen turned black. at first I thought the battery went out but after maybe 1 or 2 second/s the screen turned back on like nothing happened.
I was wondering if anyone has ever experienced this and do you think it's a sign for the 3DS about to give in?

This happened to me once when playing Miracle Mask. But then when I pressed the power button, it resumed back into play. I figured that if you disable wireless mode, it doesn't stay in black. It could be due to some problems which to me happens rarely.

I guess the only thing to say is that updates can fix it or you just have to send it to Nintendo for repair.

this is the first time it happened to me. I didn't need to turn it back on, the screen returned by itself after a second or so. didn't nintendo just released an update like a day ago or so...at least in EU. well, I wait and see.

Oh yeah, when the screen turned black it happened to both screens, top and bottom.

Never happened to me. But if it's only happened once then it should be fine. I've had a few one time glitches with my 3DS (lock up on home menu, unable to load a game), and both my OG and XL 3DSs are fine. If it starts happening regularly that's when you should call Nintendo.

Something like this happened to me, when I played Samurai Warriors: Chronicles. I had to send my 3DS to Nintendo, because if I remember right, I had to restart the whole system in order to get the screen on again...

my system didn't crash or anything nor do I have any problems with freezing or so. it just blacked out for a moment and works since then fine again...It just freaked me out a bit XD

Its happened to me once way back when the 3DS launched while playing Shadow Wars. Patches since then have largely fixed the issue, but it seems like most of the problem was from leaving the WiFi switch on in games that didn't use it.

it might be the connection to the upper screen.

I lost my last 3DS to something like this. It would turn back on after a hard reset, but black out again after a few minutes. I figured it was its time. Still sad, though.....;___;

not just the upper screen. it was both screens for a second at the same time...that's why my initial thought was the battery died but then it popped back up. c'mon, noone got a conspiracy theory for that? XD

Ok, today it happened again. In the Metro again. Not sure why but I think it happens when we passed that one station like last time. maybe there is a hotspot or something and the 3DS reacts to it. what bums me out is that the screens, top and bottom, turns black for a second and comes back. I was playing all night tetris at work and nothing happened so I believe there is something interfering at that metro station....I hope.

Does the sound cut out too? Perhaps the 3DS thinks it is closed when it isn't and it is a magnet problem
