It's gotta be either a pretty major IP or something totally new that they're gonna push hard. I'd say it was Pokemon OR/AS if it wasn't something unannounced.

a new zelda game for wii u for 3DS, huh? that'd be pretty interesting, heh.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess either a new 3D Mario game for the 3DS, or a totally new Zelda game for Wii U.

It won't be majora's mask 3d, they wouldnt hold a conference for that ever. There was that announcement that they already made concept for the next mario game. I think there is a decent chance of it being metroid, although I couldnt see a conference like this for that.

Metroid is one of those odd cases. They're good games, yet don't appeal to brand new audiences well. Why I cannot figure out but it's one of those games that unless you've played one already, you're chances of buying one aren't as high as you are of buying, say, a Mario game. FZero I think is more likely just because it's fairly straightforward, racing. Everybody can relate to racing in some way or another and have, if you will, already experienced racing so they know that they will enjoy it.

So you are basically saying that you think the metroid series is dead then.

I'm not a big fan of the zelda series really, but I can't think of anything else they'd like to talk about for an hour and a half besides zelda. So, I'm going to side with the majora's mask 3d crowd for now.

I can just picture "there are a lot of things different from the original blah blah" "new modes" "miiverse integration" etc.

I just cant picture them doing an hour and a half conference for a 3ds port, new features or not. It won't be in the wiiu and would be made by grezzo again, so there could only be so many new things. It just seems incredibly unlikely.

How long of a conference did they have for OoT 3D?

What about that Pikachu 3DS game? It never got a title so I guess it could be considered unannounced.

Custom Robo would be the most interesting choice for a reveal, but it's not a big franchise. Zelda and Metroid have a decent likelihood in my opinion.

I REALLY want to say it's a new IP or at least a new Metroid or Star Fox.

I don't think they'll be releasing MM3D this year since we already have the Ruby and Sapphire remakes releasing in November. I honestly think it would be too much to release two remakes in one year.

That thread isn't over. As I even mentioned in the OP I expected a few games to fill out the barren (at the time) 2014 release calender, but I still feel like the 3DS is closer to dying than it is to its launch. I didn't mention it in that thread because I wanted to focus on games, but even the sales for the 3DS have slowed down dramatically, which further supports the notion that the 3DS has already reached its peak.

Back on topic, I'm thinking the game will probably involve those figurines we heard about earlier. If it is really getting an hour and a half long presentation, I'd expect it to be because of a big franchise is getting the treatment. Perhaps a crossover like smash bros/nintendo land?

I think something relating to the NFC figurines is most likely given everything we know. I can't really imagine them spending that much time on smaller niche titles like Metroid or F Zero.

I can actually see Metroid being a potential candidate for new 3DS game.

Maybe niche was the wrong word to use. While it certainly isn't niche like the Persona games or Monster Hunter, it's sales potential basically middling, not something I forsee them spending so much time on. I do think a Metroid 3DS game has a decent enough chance of being announced, I'm just not sure this 1.5 hour presentation would be dedicated to it.

Well if it is a 3DS game, I would think there's less risk investing in Metroid since they don't have to worry much about the HD treatment and whatnot. I don't feel like they lost faith in Metroid, but rather Nintendo lost faith in themselves to make a proper game.

If that makes sense.

Conker's Bad 3D Day. Or perhaps Banjo Kazooie 3D.

Whatever it is, it will most likely be a game with a decent social element with DLC to appeal to a wider audience. It is for these reasons that I would have to rule out F-Zero and Metroid. Here's hoping it is a game that appeals to casuals and more hardcore games alike.

Well, much like Fire Emblem: Awakening, I believe Metroid has a chance of being the biggest hit yet if they market it right. So I could possible see a 3ds presentation on it (Who knows, it could be a third-person game!). However the thing that diverts me away from this is that time span. 1.5 hours. 1 hour, 30 minutes. 90 minutes. 5400 seconds. And this worries me because I wonder what game would take that long that's both unannounced and relevant? So my final opinion will be the revealing of a new i.p.

Metroid is unknown? I don't see that being the case. The japanese just don't care about it at all and the west does, except for other m.

By "un-known, I meant, If you ask someone, "Hey, have you played Metroid?" The common gamer is probably going to say, "Wuzzat?"

At least, that's what I've encountered.

No... I mean by people who spend at least 5+ hours of playing video games a week. You guys are taking what I said too seriously. Most people won't be like, "Oh, yeah, I've heard of Metroid. The game where Dark Samus disintegrates into hundreds of tiny blue phazon particles and disappears.

Maybe the common gamer has heard of it, but they most likely haven't played any of it.

Well dark samus Doesnt represent the whole series. The average gamer would be like "Oh yea, metroid with samus and the metroids and ridley and mother brain.". Maybe alsoa a space pirates mention or something.

Most people aren't like that because that's not a major detail of the franchise to mention. That's like saying Skyrim is unknown because most people aren't like "Oh yeah Skyrim the game where alduin's soul explodes in Sovenguard" or Zelda is unknown because people aren't like "Oh yeah that's the series where Ganondorf got turned into stone when you impaled him with the Master Sword".

Most gamers will recognize metroid and could probably even tell you something about it, that's not Nintendo's problem. Their issue is that most people haven't played a traditional (and I mean traditional, not FPS [Although they are by no means bad]) Metroid game and so when and if nintendo decides to make one, some consumers may be hesitant to buy the game as they don't know exactly what to expect.

As this point, and although I'd prefer a 2D traditional Metroid game, I think I'd settle for nearly anything faithful to the series be it the classic or fps.

It also doesn't help that Metroid, despite it being a franchise that has historically sold well, has never been a top priority for Nintendo like Mario, Zelda, and now Pokemon are. Hell the N64 didn't even have a single metroid game despite it had what are often considered to be the best 3D Mario game as well as the best 3D Zelda game.



I feel that Starfox 64 3D is in a similar boat with metroid, except it got released. If you didn't ever have the chance to play a starfox game, it was probably a hit or miss for you to buy the 3DS remake. If you did, however, you probably were super excited about it. Is it a good game? Yea! It isn't a best seller because not as many fans and consumers can comprehend why it would be a good game as they have nothing to go off of aside from some online footage and screenshots.

The n64 metroid was scrapped at the last second basically.

I'm hoping for Metroid by Next Level Games.

I think that it will either be Super Mario Galaxy 3 or a new Zelda game for the Wii U.

It's for a 3ds game.

The game was S.T.E.A.M., or Strike Team Eliminating the Alien Menace. New IP from Intelligent Systems.

It seems like a more lighthearted steampunk XCOM Enemy Unknown

also, the animated cutscene/moves reminds me of henry hatsworth

intelligent systems's valkyria chronicles-like is an insta-buy simply in concept
