Default Big Hero 6 (Walt Disney Animation Studios movie)

So yeah, the studio that made Frozen and Wreck-It Ralph, as well as all those classic Disney movies you remember watching as a kid, are making an adaptation of a Marvel comic (and no, I'm fairly certain that this is NOT going to be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe).

From what I've gathered, the story takes place in the fictional world of "San Fransokyo, and is going to focus on a kid named Hiro Hamada, a robotic prodigy, who hangs out with his brother Tadashi and four like-minded friends of his, GoGo Tamago, Wasabi, Honey Lemon and Fred. They get wrapped up in some kind of evil plot or something, and Hiro uses his robot buddy, Baymax, to form a team with his friends and save the day.

Teaser trailer came out a few days ago, featuring Hiro and who I assume is Baymax:

Spoiler!

In addition, T. J. Miller has been cast as Fred and Jamie Chung as GoGo Tomago. Maya Rudolph is also in the movie, though I don't know who.

It's interesting to note that in the comic, the Silver Samurai is part of the group (I think), but he doesn't appear to be in this movie. He was in the last Wolverine movie, so maybe only Fox can put him in movies at this point...

Either way, this all sounds really interesting and I look forward to seeing more!

Seems like the basic hero story but who knows.

If you all are interested in the original Marvel comic, just... don't bother. It's bad to mediocre with heavy sprinkling of animu stereotypes. I got secondhand embarrassment as I read through it.

There's a reason it was pretty much unknown until now.

The movie has very little in common with the original comic anyway. No wonder Disney completely changed the story and setting.

What if I like bad to mediocre with a heavy sprinkling of animu stereotypes?

Regardless, since Disney is taking liberties with story, hopefully it's good.

...I liked it. Not much else I can say other then that. I think Baymax might be my favorite character.

None of the humor did anything for me in the trailer. Hopefully there a lot more funnier moments throughout the whole film.

The film looks gorgeous, though. The action sequences in this one are going to be really interesting.

I just got back from watching the film.

I'm very happy with how it turned out.

The city of San Fransokyo looked stunning. Disney created a whole new rendering engine just for this film and it really shows.

It was nice to have a Disney film that featured a diverse cast. Plus, having the main character deal with his depression and grief throughout the course of film was nice.

I heard it wasn't that good and tried too hard to be the Iron Giant. But I thought it was pretty good.

Until this post, it never crossed my mind to compare the two.

They're similar if you're only looking at the superficial plot points. But they're different thematically.

The Iron Giant = taking control of your identity.

Big Hero 6 = dealing with the loss of a loved one.

To illustrate:

OneyNG Tweeted about it being too much like Iron Giant, I can barely see the simularities other than the kid/robot protagonist. It's a real shame seeing how there are alot of replies from people who canceled plans to see it.

SMH.

I love both films. It's a shame people missed out on Big Hero 6 simply because of a single comment.

I mean I haven't watched Iron Giant since it came out, so I don't really remember it enough to make any kind of comparison besides the one obvious one.

I actually got the artbook for this movie awhile back.

The blu-ray comes out February 24 so I'll be getting that as well.

Someone pointed out that this is the first animated film that has featured a biracial protagonist which is an important/interesting fact.
