Did anyone even... get Samus Aran? If wasn't. Zero Suit Samus would be my choice.

I wasn't really calling out ZeRo lol. I really meant the majority of the players utilized cowardice in their tactics including Kirby and most definitely Wii Fit Trainer. I don't ever want to see finals with camping again

Agreed. It is just their "Fighting strategy" and ZeRo was smart in finals to force Kirby to Sudden Death. That's where ZSS have good range to hit for good. However it is still coward way to do on final.

I think Sudden Death could have gone either way. It's a smart play to stall out though because Kirby had much less damage prior to Sudden Death

I like how Kirby was completely unable to touch ZSS once she started jumping around to draw the Sudden Death. I thought ZSS had a much better chance of winning SD just because of her range. Kirby had to hit in between her moves to get close but you can't really do that in SD.

I haven't watched a ton of competitive Brawl so I can't say I know for sure what I'm talking about, but I feel like what we've seen shows decent improvement over Brawl gameplay. I still have a few qualms and things I'd like to see changed, but they're really more tweaks than total mechanical shifts. I don't want to see the game simply become Melee, but there are some changes I think would make it a more entertaining game to both watch and play.

First, I think kill% should be lowered. It felt like, for a lot of characters, a LOT of damage had to be built up before they could land a knockout. It may just be that kill moves haven't been figured out yet, as those who seemed to have it down, like Hungrybox with Kirby's up-throw, could land kills at more reasonable %s. It just felt like stocks took too long. Simple fix, really, imo.

I'd also like to see edgeguarding become more viable. I'm no Smash expert so I'm not really 100% sure what that would entail, it just felt like nobody was able to properly edgeguard at all. I assume one of the changes would be changing ledgegrab mechanics, though supposedly they have been altered to some extent already, but I didn't see much of that at the tourney. Having recoveries almost always work just isn't as interesting or fun, imo. Once again, this may just be because these players are new to the game.

I appreciate that hitstun is back, and I like what I've seen of it so far, but I really feel like increasing it a biiiiit could go a long way, and even help with the two above issues. Maybe this is kinda "make it like Melee", because I thought the freeform-esque combo system was something really great that helped define the game, but this is really just a small change in the scheme of things.

These are just my impressions thus far based off of what I've seen. I'm no Smash expert by any means, and I'm just working off the little I know about Smash mechanics in-depth. I really like what I see in the game and I have a lot of faith in it to be great, but these are just a few small changes that could help make it more fast-paced and exciting, imo. I want Smash 4 to be its own thing, but I also want it to be a game in the series I'll want to keep going back to.

Either way, gonna be trying the game in a few hours, so I guess I'll have a better idea about all this soon...

Based on impressions I've read, this game is more like Brawl than it is Melee. I wouldn't really expect much.

Not sure what you mean by "I wouldn't really expect much." The game could play like Brawl and still very easily be a very fun and competitive game, albeit different than Melee. It already seems like a number of improvements have been made, I just feel like there are a few things I would personally still change.

I just mean I wouldn't expect too many changes in mechanics. Basically, I'm expecting a more refined version of Brawl

I don't really think I'm asking for many large mechanical changes, aside from perhaps some ledgegrabbing stuff, which might not even be necessary, as I don't know how the ledge trump works. I think that even just some variable tweaks would make things more interesting, and I think it's plausible that those could be changed between now and release.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure changes are still possible. Depends on what Sakurai feels is appropriate.

Going to try it out on Saturday.

The game (as Sakurai said) is still in development, so I'm hoping some of the major issues present will be corrected. Otherwise I find it from the footage I've seen to be a quite interesting game.

Consensus seems to be that landing recovery is the most major issue at the moment, I believe.

Considering you played it, did you personally find landing recovery a major issue? How are the forum's impressions on this game anyway? I thought people went out to try the demo

I mean the one match I played was really chaotic and I spent most of the time just trying to figure out how to play Mega Man, that I didn't get that much of a feel for the game at all. As far as the 3DS, I played Toon Link, so I had a better idea what I was doing. But it was Smash Run, so I dunno. I don't really have too much to say about it. From what I could tell, it didn't feel that much different from Brawl.
