Default Capcom Now Open for Potential Purchase

http://www.gengame.net/2014/06/capco...tial-purchase/

Fingers crossed that Nintendo buys them up, it just feels like a match made in heaven... plus, Nintendo clearly seems to know what to do with Mega Man (and maybe other properties) then Capcom does, if Super Smash Bros. is any indication.

Going to quote what I posted in Santa Destroy.

They have a lot of stock in the mobile market, and I imagine that in the end, if they are purchased, it will be by a very mobile-focused company who wants to use Capcom's IPs and none of us will be happy.

Ideally... um... really, I'd rather they remain autonomous and just rebuild their Japanese development side. If I had to choose, I guess I'd like them to be bought by a console manufacturer so they're forced into making console games. I don't think a buyout is going to change their focus on several key franchises, though.
Their IPs really aren't that valuable or desirable. Whoever gains majority stock in them isn't going to put more folks on their console development teams. Whatever happens, I can almost guarantee it will put them further on the path towards exclusively mobile development.

I wouldn't be too sure about that. Nintendo has enough issues figuring out what to do with some of their own IPs.

Placing megaman in as a fighter isn't really enough for me to consider that they "know what to do" with megaman.

I can only hope someone competent invests in Capcom.

Actually, let me change that, I hope the entity that invests in Capcom knows how to straddle the line of both mobile and console rather than leaning too much to one side or the other. I think that is what's best.

I don't know how you can make that argument when a lot of their console games (DmC, Street Fighter X Tekken, Dark Arisen, RE6, Remember Me, Darkstalkers, Strider, etc.) never made it to the Wii U even though it was released early enough.

And I don't think any console manufacturer bought a studio with 2500+ employees either. They've always been smaller companies that have around a hundred people. Maybe some entertainment conglomerate but... I doubt anyone wants majority share of Capcom anyway.

Capcom as a company has been pretty meh for awhile now. If they were bought by someone else, it would most likely lead to an improvement.

Literally any other gaming company except for Capcom knows what to do with Megaman.

There's been some misdirection recently, such as the leaked Mega Man X FPS footage, X-over, and the way they've been handling announcements/cancellations, but it's not like MM9 and 10 were too long ago. If they wanted to make a decent budget, good Mega Man game, I'm sure they're capable of it. There's still at least SOME Japanese development talent remaining.

BTW, someone made this post on another forum:

Quote:
Before anyone gets too excited, do remember that this doesn't necessarily mean anything will happen. Along with this, it's rare 1st party studios get heavily involved with acquisitions like this anymore. They're apparently also available for auctioning off IPs... basically the most important takeaway from this, though: Capcom's shareholders are saying that the company in its current state is nowhere near as profitable as it could be. Some bittersweet validation for everyone who Capcom has pissed off in the past few years, I suppose.

Onto the fun (and purely speculative) stuff: were they to auction off IPs, I would love to see Nintendo snatch up Megaman, Monster Hunter, and Ace Attorney. Honestly I think they would do it in a heartbeat, because at this point all three are essentially Nintendo exclusives anyhow. I also wouldn't be surprised to see them pick up Resident Evil, because Nintendo always makes a huge deal about RE games being on their consoles. Nintendo basically touted RE4 as one of its crown jewels back in the GC era, and it'd give them a successful Mature franchise.

I'd also really love to see Platinum pick up Devil May Cry and Viewtiful Joe. That would just feel right.
I kind of knew someone would be a wet blanket about Nintendo getting Capcom, for good and bad reasons. It pays to have a realistic view in these kinds of situations. Actually, I think selling off individual properties makes more sense then buying the whole company.

I don't really think auctioning off their IPs is on the table right now. This isn't a THQ situation where they're going bankrupt. As the quote says, their shareholders just don't see as much profit from them as they'd like to and are no longer willing to prevent a company from purchasing majority stock in them. Auctioning off their profitable IPs like Monster Hunter and Ace Attorney isn't going to make the shareholders feel any better.

I'm no expert, though, so I could be wrong.

If they get bought, it'll probably be by some third party mobile company like GungHo. I'd like Nintendo to, but they probably won't. They're too thrifty and while they might be interested in certain Capcom IPs like Mega Man and Ace Attorney, I doubt they want to buy the entire company.
