Default PSA: The use of the word "rape"

Let me start off by saying that rape is one of the most traumatizing things that someone can experience. It takes years of therapy to recover from it and even then it is a burden that a person must carry with them for their entire life.

Using the word "rape" to describe trivial things that happened in video games is insulting to survivors of sexual abuse.

The only acceptable use of the word "rape" is when referring to the crime of sexual assault.

As with other terms, using this word in an inappropriate context will earn you a warning then an infraction.

Also, I know for an absolute fact that there are rape survivors on this forum.

So just don't do it.

Thank you.

There are people who do this here? I mean, I can't say that I have the most angelic vocabulary whenever I'm speaking with friends face-to-face or something like the young dumbasses we are, but I thought this should be common sense for everyone who posts on a public forum.

That said, I still agree.

I occasionally use "rape" in referring to the abhorrent abuse/misuse of something (e.g. "raping the land"). It's pretty easy to tell from context which meaning is being used.

Basically I wouldn't strike it down as inappropriate 100% of the time, but either way it's a strong word that should only be used within proper context.

I've pretty much changed the way I said it, now I always say get wrecked or rekt when I used to refer to things. It is time to stop using certain language if we want to advance as a society.

Language is the least of any society's problems. Though yes, the language it uses shows its level of education(in general, not in degrees).

Nevertheless, I have to agree it's not nice to use such a word the way some people do. It must be hurtful for those who have experienced it.
