Default Regular or XL

Which type of 3DS do you own/mostly play?

I have both, and ever since I bought my 3DS XL, the regular one has been sitting in my closet gathering dust. It just feels like a Fisher Price toy compared to an XL.

I've also got both.
I use the XL at home and the regular on the road.
Only the regular on eis used for streetpass.
I'd say the are both used equally.

I used to have a regular 3DS, but I got an XL for the bigger screens and to avoid finger prints all over the plastic.

I used to have both, but after I got my XL, I gave the regular one to my less fortunate cousin.

He lost it.

I only have the regular (i.e. the original) and, based on my limited experience with the XL and on reading other threads on the subject, I find the original to be nicer in that it has a more premium feel ( even if it comes at the price of being a fingerprint magnet) and has a better 3D effect overall. The original also has a higher volume. And don't forget, it comes with a fancier (telescopic) stylus

I bought the OG on day one, then sold it for the XL the day it released. I am very happy with the XL and prefer it over the vanilla.

Why would you own both at the same time and play both?

Well, I have the OG 3DS and the XL, but I only play on the XL now. I think I'll sell my OG model eventually.

Because of 6D, of course. Why settle for 3D when you can have twice that?

I did it so I could play Pokemon by myself with out needing someone else to help me trade between the two games, but that not why I still do it.

I had my original 3DS for about 3 years but then decided to upgrade to the XL (got it used at gamestop) i both Love and hate the XL its to damn big but at the same time it feels good and has a better screen if you have the original its more portable...you can also check out a little snippet review i wrote on my site...

I only own the original 3DS. Because money is very tight, and because my little handheld remains rock solid with only some ghosting issues when there's a glare or it's too dark, I'm gonna keep it that way.

I also have an emotional attachment to it. First true 3D experience in my life was on that thing, and the games just keep on comin'! I can't afford 'em all!!

In my experiences with both of them, Honestly I say the original because its more firm and that the audio is loud enough in there and the only way I can enjoy games on XL is that I need earphones to do so. Plus the original's hinges are very strong compared to the XL in my opinion due to the XL one sounding a little bit fragile.

Definitely get the 3DS XL, here are the main reasons why
1) Bigger screen, the 3DS is just way too small, the 3DS XL has a larger screen which is better for viewing and playing games, and it feels more comfortable. The 3DS feels like a little toy compared to the 3DS XL

2) Overall design, the 3DS has a glossy finish which becomes a finger print magnet, the 3DS XL has more of a matte finish to it so it is easy to take care of. The 3DS XL also has the stylus placed to the right of the console, this is EXTREMELY useful because you can access the stylus quick and easily. The 3DS on the other hand has the stylus on the top of the console which is difficult to pull out, especially if you need it quickly.

3) Storage, the 3DS has a 2GB SD card while the 3DS XL has a 4GB SD card, this is useful if you want to download demos or have updates for your games.

4) Comfort, the 3DS is very small compared to the 3DS XL, when you hold the 3DS you have your hands cramped together for a long period of time and that can be very uncomfortable, the 3DS XL is much bigger so it is much more comfortable to play with for longer periods of time

5) Battery, not only is the screen bigger but so is the battery. How long your battery lasts is determined by what you are doing, if you are playing system demanding games then the battery will be shorter, but the physical size of the battery in the 3DS XL is larger which means that the battery life will be better on the 3DS XL by a few hours

6) Price to value ratio, for all of those features and improvements above the 3DS XL is just around $30 more expensive then the 3DS.

So I would say you should buy a 3DS XL for those reasons, hope this helped :

I've had 5 3ds's now. 3 regulars and I'm on my 2nd XL (just couldn't resist the Yoshi Special Edition).

My 3rd reg was just bought just a few days ago but developed a battery fault, previous to this I had the Fire Emblem XL and going back to a reg was a real struggle - it just felt waaaay too small. The positives are less aliasing but the XL just delivers a much more embers I've experience - and for me that is what it's all about.

The 3DSXL is better. The original 3DS has screen scratching and breaking shoulder button problems.

No comment on the 2DS, LOL!

I've got both, and I vastly prefer the XL since it's just more comfortable for me. Not to mention the better battery life and a more conveniently placed stylus slot.. I still have my original 3DS as a back up, and to use as a Streetpass slave. Tried the 2DS once, and it didn't feel that great just because of the cheaper quality and smaller size.

Hi all, new forum member. I only have the 3DS XL. I liked the size and am completely impressed with it. Even though it won't fit in my pocket, I carry it in a 3DS XL case that holds the system and eight of my game cartridges.

Cheers!
Gary

Get the XL. The original has had some problems (shoulder buttons crapping out and screen scuffing).

Also been noticing most store don't even sell the original version anymore. Your choices eventually are going to be the XL or 2DS.

I have a flame red 3ds. I like the rigid and geometric feel on the 3DS regular, rather than the XL. But, i think i would prefer more screen. That being said i'm probably going to sell my 3DS, and buy either the Limited edition Smash Bros, or ORAS XL, if/when they come out in the U.S.

Never had the original, just the XL. The XL is really great, no smudgy resolution, not too heavy, feels prefect. Why settle for the tiny original? I mean, if you're buying the console right now, don't go for less because it's cheap. Either go for the better model, or wait until you have enough. Don't settle for the lesser option.

The XL, aside from being bigger, is overall just a bit better of a device. Nearly all (if not all completely) of the small flaws or issues with the original have been taken care of and overall it's just a very nice device. Except for the "claimed" better battery, I never owned an original but I hardly get 6 or 8 hours with brightness on the 2nd to lowest setting, if that's anything significantly better than the original I feel sorry for anybody who is ever away from a wall outlet.

I prefer the original because of it's compact size and shinny-ish colors. However, I am interested on the Smash limited edition 3DS XL
