My heart sinked. I had no idea Miyazaki's departure was going to have such an negative effect on the studio financially. Hopefully they ARE just taking a break from making films to reconstruct the company. Even so, it's still sad we won't be seeing anything from them for a while.

Imagining the whole studio completely shut down brings tears to my eyes.

I'd say Pixar. I loved their movies like Toy Story, A Bug's Life and Monsters Inc as a kid and even recently, I enjoyed watching Brave and Monsters University. I must have watched A Bug's Life on VHS tape like a hundred times back in the day

I like Makoto Shinkai's visual style and animation from CoMix Wave Films

And Sylvain Chomet's too.

I am a huge fan of Studio Ghibli.
I've got almost all of their movies on DVD.
When I was a kid I saw all the Disney movies. I could practically recite Jungle Book, Aladin, and Beauty and the beast. And I loved The Lion King and the Little Mermaid.

However, Disney stories are always... Disney. (Don't get me wrong, it's not that bad). But I feel Ghibli stories are more layered and can be viewed from multiple angles.
Like Mononoke Hime (Princess Mononoke) for example. Watch it once and there is an obvious good and bad side. Yet when you think about it... it's clear that we favoured industrialism over nature and peace. We still do today. So who's to say who is wrong and who is right? There is always more than one truth.

The latest Disney I watched was Frozen. I love the animation. But no matter how I wanted to love the movie, it felt bland (and the songs where so screamy!) at the end.

Yes, let it go...

The animation though, amazing. The water, the hair and the snow.

Pixar's my personal favorite because of Finding Nemo (one of my favorites), Up, and the Toy Story trilogy. Disney comes close with Aladdin and Wreck-It Ralph being my two favorites from them. DreamWorks (Shrek 1/2, Rise of the Guardians, HTTYD 1 and 2), Aardman (Wallace & Gromit, Arthur Christmas) and Illumination are great as well. Never seen a Studio Ghibli (don't kill me please) or Laika movie.

Oh, we won't kill you.
Perhaps tie you to a chair and make you watch all of them in succession.

I did like Wreck-It Ralph though. The amount of puns and references in this movie is amazing!

i don't really get all the fuss about studio ghibli. i've seen six ghibli films and i didn't really think they were as great as people seem to make them out to be. out of the six i've seen, grave of the fireflies was the only one i found enjoyable. but oh well, that's just me.

I completely agree with that and I've seen a good bunch of them and I dont really get why they are put at the level that soo man people say about them, they just mostly arent really that special at all.
