Default Senran Kagura 2 Initial Impressions

Tada! lots of words for like the 3 users that'll likely read this XD

Story (telling) mode:
You can repeat the most recent voices if you really enjoyed listening to certain segment, and can scroll back up to see a transcript of the story if you need to. So this is neat.
They've also added the odd animation here and there to make things a bit more interesting. Some people seem to prefer the story from Burst tho, saying this one is "too anime" (so?!?!?)
So far from what I've seen they have ramped up the "moe" to a power level over 9000.

Beginning of game.
Similiar to Hebijo in Burst. The game will throw you into a series of stages first before taking you back to the main HUB (your dojo / hideout). The game throws you in the deep end almost straight away with no escape or backup plan like being able to transform to regen your health (because you start the early stages already "powered up")

3D?
Always available. It is some of the strongest I've seen.
I've had breasts stick out what appears like 5cm from the screen.
I've also managed to break my eyes and have an arm stick out of the screen so far (like 12cm) that I had to move my head back almost out of range of the 3D in order to focus on her hand.
Most of the game is depth based as usual however.

Frame rate
MUCH better. The game flows a lot better now, e.g. cut scenes of clothing ripping no longer jarringly changes to a different scene anymore, instead the game "slows down" and camera zooms in to the character on stage, (background doesn't change or anything) then zooms back.

Speaking of clothing tears, there are more stages of clothes damage now too. top half / bottom half is treated separate. (So you can can tear up the top half only, or bottom half only at times)

Character transformations are cooler. This is still treated similar to the previous game where the background changes all "power up" style etc. (Makes sense, Sailor Moon etc does it too)
Some of them actually had me burst out laughing.

The game throws a lot of humor / cute at you which can happen so fast you might miss it if your not paying attention.

The circle pad pro is supported
This adds basic level camera control. You can zoom in and out, and have limited ability to rotate the camera around as well. I have not tried using the touch screen yet but no buttons themselves without the circle pad has this. So this is the first game I know of that requires the circle pad pro in order to be able to have access to all possible controls.

There is no block, there is no "limit breaker".
At least early on.
Well, not the same press R to release a burst of energy around you. Instead if you Jump then hit X it does the same thing, crashes down to the ground with a shockwave. It doesn't cost health either.
So expect to do a lot more jumping to avoid and break out of attacks.

Combat is a bit more technical
Buttons now have tap and hold modes.
Y for standard attack
Hold Y for a harder hit (but this usually requires unlocking or done mid combo)
This means you can no longer just hammer buttons as fast as you humanly can until you complete a stage.

X for an alternate attack/option.
Mirai for example, if you hit X, she will change what weapon she is using. Its no longer strictly strong attack.
But that doesn't mean its no longer used combos. For example, After a standard attack or two you can turn the weapon switching into part of your combo, as you can switch between the three weapons she has quickly (eg weapon 1 attack -> weapon 2 swing -> weapon 3 swing -> weapon 1 swing)
This new system means that each character can have a lot more variation in play style. There are hold X commands as well

Tap R to dash, Hold R to run.
If you have an enemy targeted:
Tapping R while moving will dash, if you not moving when you tap R, you will hookshot on to the targeted enemy and pull yourself towards them. You can do this at any time. You can be in the air or on the ground, and your enemy can be in the air or on the ground.
Holding R runs towards the enemy (useful if they are off screen, which happens often)

Tag System
If you didn't know already, the game can be 2 vs 2 or 2 vs mob now.

If you are playing solo and have a team member with you A will switch which character you control, you can be silly and do stuff like jump, switch, jump, switch and keep doing this until you are out of the earths atmosphere. (Well, hit the limit and can no longer go any higher)
So take advantage of this to keep combos going longer than usual.

Character Customization
There is A LOT more customization now. You can outfit several different headgear / accessories now as well (even add two different bits of hair sticking out for example).
There is "standard only / powered up only / both" customization options for the accessories too.

Normal and "powered up" costumes are no longer separated. So you can reverse the look if you want.

But the customization screen could have been done better.
In a way I preferred the older system. Chose a style, then change color.

Now its a long list. Like
Hibari Hair Style - Blue
Hibari Hair Style - Black
Hibari Hair Style - Green
Hibari Hair Style - Pink
Hibari Hair Style - White
Clothes can have like 30 colors to them too. So a lot of scrolling to get to the one you want (you can "page up/page down" scroll to speed things up)

My playthrough started here
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...TO1rK-ihFTTM5s
It'll be a while before I can add any more parts (although I really want to do two more before I go to Japan on Monday, I don't think I have the time realistically to pull it off)

Talking

Ha! This is my 54th and last game on the system. I like it - the 3D is amazing - Nintendo needs as many games like this as it can get.

From Resident Evil Revelations to this - there enough games for adults like me to be happy.

Good point, why stop at 54! I do need to get all these games played however, my backlog is way too huge!
