I use the classic theme. I'm not that impressed by the themes and don't like that I have to buy them from Nintendo.
I'd be great if new games included a theme download code or something. But the difference the themes make is just to small to justify a €1,- purchase.
It'd be great if one could meke them theirselves.

Will ask here since no one wants to answer it in chat. I bought the Rosalina spinner theme and noticed the 3D depth in the home menu has been reduced. I only have one so far so I can't compare and wanted to know if there is something wrong with mine or is the same with all the themes?

By the way on the home menu press Y+UP(d-pad) to take a picture of top screen and Y+down(d-pad) to take a picture of the bottom screen.

Same thing happens with the hanafuda theme. Might be because the themes use background images, unlike the "classic" theme and it's color variations

That's a shame. Since I have the 3D at max all the time it's weird not seeing them in their full depth. Are there any that retain it?

I got the Spinner Peach one the other day. In a way I regret getting it because I'm starting to find the music somewhat annoying, but oh well, I still like how the top screen background looks.




Also got a free DLC for the Halloween one from Club Nintendo. It's kind of ugly, but free is free so I can't complain.

I hate the Rosalina theme MUSIC. I'm not going to get any other one unless they add a music preview option. Or an option to use a theme but not use its background music.

I actually just purchased the Bowser Spinner theme myself - the theme is cool, especially the top screen and the folders, but I imagine the music'll get annoying before too long.

I might've missed something with an earlier update, but does having a theme add more "icons" (or spaces for the icons) to your Home Screen? I've always had my menu set up for the three rows and I'm fairly certain I've always had only three full screens worth of scrolling to the right (by pressing the arrow), but now I have way more! Was that changed in a recent update and I just didn't notice it, but is it actually a result of the theme?

Going to the smallest size icons also resulted in having only a single "screen", but now I can have the smallest icons and still scroll through a few screens.

Edit: Here's my Home Screen at the moment and this is the layout I've had for a while:



The main screen is pretty standard, really. The folders are: Retail/Demo(s), 3DSWare/Classics, DSiWare, Virtual Console, and Misc. Files. I don't have many games downloaded in terms of retail (only ACNL) so that first folder is all demos right now. I also don't have enough VC titles to need specific folders per console - maybe that'll change some day.



Second "page" is pretty bare right now - only the OR/AS demo (that'll be removed once the full game is out, I'm sure) and Bank/Transporter.

I've been wanting to get myself to use four rows instead of three, but I can never get a layout I'm happy with. I'd like to have more actual downloaded games out on the screen instead of in folders because I feel that'll get me to play 'em more often, but I'm extremely picky when it comes to organization (I even organize my Activity Log, for heaven's sake!) and I can't find something that makes me happy.

I noticed that after getting the Yoshi theme, so I promptly went back to the original (or "Do not use a theme" as they say).

Very disappointing. Nintendo is normally very good to excellent with their use of stereo.

I got the Sonic Boom one coz it was free, it's ok.
Even if they are really cheap I don't think I want to spend money on such unnecessary things.

Got the Pikmin: A Hungry Bulborb theme because it looked really good. Find the music much better than the Spinner Rosalina music. Also got a free theme for buying Nintendogs + Cats: French Bulldog

I got that one to see if it had the same squashed depth issue as the Yoshi theme and, yep, it's the same.

Sadly the Hungry Bulborb and Nintendogs + Cats themes also have reduced depth. Still loving the Pikmin theme and it's red Pikmin folders.

the only theme that matters, for my money

Just noticed the recent 3DS update improved the 3D effect for themes. Compared the Sonic theme on my updated 3DS and my brothers 3DS that hasn't been updated yet. Definitely much better now. Makes me want to buy more themes now that the depth is back to normal. Senran Kagura Burst logo is still messed up.
