Default Possibly lost/stolen 3DS - Help finding owner?

Hey there!
I have an odd situation, and one that I never felt totally OK about.

I bought a 3DS on Ebay for dirt cheap, mainly because friends kept telling me I had to play Pokemon X and Y.

But, I received it, and it was locked down with parental controls, and had several games on it!
Granted, they were just some cheap/free games from the 3DS store, but still.
And it had a kid's account, with a few pictures of him on it.

Well, I contacted Nintendo and they did give me a code to unlock the parental controls, but they couldn't help me with the fact that it was some kid's unit. I even offered to send it to Nintendo and let them deal with it, but no luck.

The profile had his first name, username, and state. So I contacted the state police and gave them all of the info I had on it, they said nothing was available and that I should turn it into my local police department (on the other side of the country).

I think I've had it for over almost a year now. It's 2015, and I would like to at least figure out what's up with this thing.

He had two friends on his profile, so I changed the profile message to my email address. Haven't gotten anything...

But, I know his name is Chris, his username is cxpo3. I have a picture of him, and of course I have the unit's serial number.
If anything can be found, it would be much appreciated.

Obvious question, but did you ask the seller on ebay?

It was a consignment shop in New York, they said they got it in a bulk box of other things and didn't even turn it on. But yea, they were the first people I contacted.

I have my phone number made with folders on the HOME Menu in case I lose it and some honest person like you finds it.

But I dunno what could be done in your case ): Can you recover the email address registered to the NNID?

Wish I could, that'd make things too easy

I commend you for being honest but there's no way to know if it was genuinely stolen or lost.

The kid could have just gotten bored with it and told their parents to sell it. Even if they did lose it or have it stolen from them, they might have already gotten a replacement system.

Anyway, you've had it for over a year. It's your 3DS now. You paid for it honestly so I don't think you should feel guilty about resetting the system and making your own profile.

Yea, if only such things could talk.
I'll hold onto it for a while longer, but ultimately, you are correct.

[large gaming retailer] had refurb units today and I bought one with Mario Kart 7.. if anything, I'll pack a stylus and charger with this one (I have extras now..) and relist it after I've forgotten about it in my desk and found it again.
