I was really hoping for the blue one to come to America. I'm sure more colors will be released during the year.

Default any opinions here?

I currently have a regular 3ds probably about 3 years old, getting a bit dirty and what not, no current major problems (occasionally it will say SD card has been removed). just asking for opinions if i should keep to my Majora's mask new3dsxl, (with skullkid fig., charger, M.mask game installed and special cover) for the price of ?210, I heard that its now micro SD card that requires a tiny screwdriver to replace, and that transferring is quite simple but you're old system won't have any downloaded items on it and i assume not able to be re-connected to your account?

is it still worth the launch? or should i just get a circle pad pro for monster hunter, i play my 3ds quite a lot and have many games for it.

any suggestions/opinions?

id say if your current 3ds is fine, then there's no real reason to upgrade, apart from wanting the new shiny device

it is a hard choice, because it would be nice to have a special limited edition ( and the figurine) can you still used downloaded software on your original device? or any other details with that?

There is a really good reason to update, the 3D and face tracking on the N3DS is truely amazing. Also the sound is better.
It's faster and the screens are 20% bigger.

Not everybody cares about bigger screens. The pixel density is a huge thing for a lot of people, so yeah.

And that is exactly the point! The non-XL n3DS only has a marginally larger screen, which makes it more comfortable to play, but still gets you a great pixel density. I think that 20% is a lot better in that respect than 90% though I myself like the 90% more, but that is personal.

The fact that you have to have two 3DS's at once to do this is a joke. Nintendo needs to stop living under a rock when it comes to how the internet works. Everything should be account bound, I've already lost a few games, and way more street passes switching to a different system. Probably still the worst thing about Nintendo. A lot of the choices they make are just completely bone headed, but since fans love them so much they can get away with it.

Still, they could have more fans if they stepped up their game.

Yeah this is the most backward thing ever. Makes any trade-in offer at launch pretty much irrelevant for anyone with any digital content on their current systems (i.e. everyone!).

does anyone have a screenshot showing the difference in the pixel density, or is it incredibly similar to playing ds games on a 3ds?

Preach on!!! I hate that Nintendo just doesn't seem to care about taking care of their customers. There are little things that make me THINK they might be changing to the Sony method (like during the latest Nintendo direct, where they said that the next Mario vs Donkey is basically "crossbuy")

I just think it is stupid, that Nintendo thinks it is wise to make their fans buy the same game multiple times, just to play it on different Nintendo hardware.

I can understand needing to do a system transfer for things like saves, but your licenses should be tied to your account, and downloadable on any hardware you are signed into... which brings up another problem, only being able to be signed into ONE handheld and one Console.

atleast they have started, if you buy one version you get the other, (atleast that is what the uk version stated)would of been mighty nice for monsterhunter and smash know >.>

I heard that the MM special edition comes with the game pre-installed in Europe, but it is not included at all with the US special edition. Is this true? I also heard that if you do a system transfer to a New 3DS, you can never go back to the original 3ds/XL/2DS...is this correct?

I'm not sure. The N3DS prompted I have to wait 7 days untill I can transfer back.
As I transfered from the 3DS to N3DS I boldy assumed that I could transfer back.
Now I'm not so sure.

I have a New Nintendo 3DS & just tested to see if i could do a system transfer from my New Nintendo 3DS to my regular 3DS XL & indeed it wouldn't let me do the transfer.

Aww, that's a bummer. Now I'm stuck with this new totally awesome N3DS. ^_~
Thanks for trying Sadangelman. It's good to know I can't change back to 3DS.
I'll probably sell my 3DSXL now. It has little to no use anymore now.

If I have a 32GB SD card how do I preform a system transfer to a NEW 3DS that only has a 4GB micro SD card? At the end of the transfer aren't you supposed to take the original SD card and put it in the new system?

Not necessarily. At the end of the 3DS transfer, use a computer to move data from one SD to the other.

You'll probably need to get a larger microSD card tho.

Easiest way is to buy a 32 GB microSD card right now (Since you'll need one anyway), use the adapter that's supplied with them and use it in your old 3DS.

Then when you get the New 3DS, perform system transfer as usual.

64gb cards are compatible, but you'll have to manually format them to fat32 on a computer.

Thanks for that. I think I will just stick with a 32GB for now if that's the case. It's still eight times the size of my current 4GB card anyway and I don't really download a lot of full retail eshop games just mainly demos.

I am concerned about the process of switching the memory cards as I've heard it's not as straight forward as I first thought. I guess there will be quite a few people who will replace their memory cards for bigger ones before I even get my new 3DS so there should be some useful feedback.

Does anyone know how we are supposed to do a system transfer with the Gamestop $100 off trade in? I want to trade in my 3DS, but how am I supposed to transfer data over?

I was thinking about the Majoras Mask version but I have a good amount of downloaded games on my existing 3ds and don't want to lose or buy them again. What are my options?

The Majora's Mask edition is already sold out so unless you've managed to pre-order it already, you probably won't be able to get one.

The game stop near my house has preorders still available. The only thing stopping me is I don't want to lose all my downloaded games from the e-shop. Other than that I would get it since I am a Zelda lover.

You shouldn't hesitate to buy one then.

It's a safe investment as they are literally going for several hundred dollars on ebay already.

You don't have to worry about that. You get the new 3DS, do a system transfer (or whatever the equivalent will be with the micro SD card) and all of your digital games will be available on the new one.

So I pre-ordered the Monster Hunter N3DS. It comes preloaded with the game, if I transferred my old 3ds content. Would that cause to delete the pre loaded game?

I did some research on this because I also preordered the monster hunter bundle. The main steps are as follows:

Set up the device
Don't link a new NNID (doing this will delete the game when you transfer)
Transfer the data
????
Profit

If you have a micro sd card in your old system and move it over, then you will have to redownload the game. If all goes according to plan, the game should be linked to your old NNID and be yours forever.

I've heard this floating around, but besides the better 3D ect... does the New 3DS XL really have better colors/saturation? I've seen a couple of people claiming that (especially Pok?mon) looks much better on the New 3DS XL. (compared to the normal 3DS XL)

When I started Fantasy Life and Kirby on my XL I immediately had the same idea on the colors. But that doesn't prove anything yet of course, I say, make a new thread with a poll!

Does the normal/smaller New 3DS also have better colours? I can't decide between the normal or the XL... :/

I know I could be missing out on great content by not downloading anything. But, the fact that when and if my system goes down, It seems to me it would be difficult to transfer any DLC on my old 3DS to the new one. That's why for now - until I get more knowledgeable - I'll stick to actual game cards.

Reason or not, you won't be able to for a NEW 3DS. Nintendo won't allow that. I think it had something to do with a cut off date being sometime in February 2015.

I got the screw drivers from Amazon which are in the link below. Supposedly they are meant to be specific screw drivers to open up Nintendo consoles. I tried using them to open up the back of my New Nintendo 3DS XL so I could swap out the memory card for a big one but they don't seem to work.

I didn't want to force them in case I damaged the screws or the 3DS XL itself. Anyone know if they are actually the right screw drivers and which one of them is appropriate or point me to one on Amazon's UK site that is. So far I've not been able to setup or use my new console as I've not been able to replace the memory card.

It says on Nintendo's site that you need size 0 phillips head. The ones you show in the Link are two Tri-tip screw drivers (which wont work) and a Size 00 Phillips head. Im guessing the size 0 is bigger than the 00, so that may be why the 00 isnt working for you.

Anyone else want to talk about how terrifying it was to take off the back plate?

Gah it was worse then putting on screen protectors.

Thanks for clarifying that. I wasn't aware it was a Phillips 0 and not a 00 that was needed. I'll have to look online for a Phillips 0 screw driver. I think Nintendo made a big mistake designing the memory card compartment like that. I'm fairly tech savvy and I'm having issues. Imagine all the parents and casual gamers who want to add extra storage. I could get away with 4GB but since I've already bought a 32GB microSD card I rather put that in.

Judging by your comment I'm not looking forward to it.

I'm not sure if this has been posted on these boards, but the new 3DS XL has an (top screen only) IPS panel, while the new standard size and all previous models do not. If you were wondering why the games look more colorful and better at angles it's because of the IPS.

Wtf is IPS and why the hell should I care about it?

Anyways I now got a Cosmos Black N3DS recently, I had to get it seeing as my old OG Ice White model died on me and it refuses to work whatsoever.

That was mostly directed at PC monitors but the points still remain.

I have a 1440P IPS panel monitor, never going back to TN or 1080P.

I really like the new 3DS, it may not be such a big leap like the DSi was for the DS but still I just love the feel of in my hands, it feels so robust and complete. It's a perfect system in my eyes (yeah it could use some more pixels) and my favourite handheld to date even surpassing my old favourite the GBA SP.

I really hope the next Nintendo handheld has a Vita quality screen, and full Backwards compatibility... Hopefully that is not just a dream.

There's a Hyrule Gold GameStop edition of the NEW 3DS XL and it's cool to have if you like the Zelda series

I'm pretty sure there will be more games made exclusively for the New Nintendo 3DS XL. I plan on getting more games for mine soon.
