"Citizens of Earth is an RPG that places you in the shoes of the Vice President of the World! He’s a classic bureaucrat: charming, charismatic, but practically useless. Being the bureaucrat you are, you don’t actually want to get your hands dirty. Thus you go about using your charisma to recruit normal townsfolk to help you investigate and fight your battles for you."

After reading Destructoid's review and agreeing with the points that were made, I have decided to pass on the title for now. Knowing Atlus, they'll probably discount it again in a few months' time.

A demo for both the Wii U and 3DS versions are now available on both respective eShops. I am currently downloading the 3DS version myself.

It appears to be a pretty big demo too, requiring nearly 2,000 blocks of space. Fun times.

I was somewhat turned off by the battle system which the reviewer found quite disagreeable but also the fact that the levels are stuffed with enemies which makes them difficult of avoid. The long load times (never mind the bugs) also served as a turn-off for me.

While I have since read different opinions on the battle system that make it seem not so bad, the other issues remain. Hopefully the demo will dissipate my concerns about the title.

Added after 6 Hours 17 minutes:

I just finished playing the 3DS demo. Although the demo is only 30-60 minutes in length, it gives you a good idea of what to expect from the real game.

To my pleasant surprise, the battle system is not bad at all. While I miss the slot-machine health bars from Earthbound which enabled characters who were dealt a mortal blow to attack/get healed before they die, the battle system still offers an abundance of options and strategies when it comes to taking on enemies which makes the gameplay fun.

The load times when leaving an area or even entering/exiting a building leave a bit to be desired although I suppose if one plays the game in short sessions (30-60 minutes) it won't be too big a nuisance.

Although I did not encounter any bugs, they remain a legitimate concern and (in my case) a reason to hold off purchasing until they are resolved. Should they (and hopefully the load times) be fixed, the game would be worth a purchase for fans of Earthbound-style RPGs.
