Default The Anti-Vaccine Movement is so Frustrating

With the measles outbreak taking up the news, it seems the vaccine "debate" has been given some extra attention.

I'm so sick of anti-vaxxers using bad science and scare tactics in a feeble attempt to support their stance. Virtually every argument posed by anti-vaxxers has been proven false.

There are countries far less privileged than the US that are unable to provide vaccines. Childhood diseases such as mumps, measles, rubella, etc. are horrible to have to endure. My mother nearly died from them and ended up with long-term health problems.

I'm glad I don't know anyone IRL that believes in this anti-vaccine bs.

What about you all?

How big is this anti-vaccination movement?

Big enough that it caused stupidly preventable and old diseases to make a comeback in a first world country. In developing nations, people constantly die because they can't get the most basic of medicines and in the US people choose not to do something to make their kid healthy.

Can I get some reasons as to why those "anti-vaxxers" are like this? Its pretty ******ed for them to think i feel. At least I get a valid reason why feel that way.

It's hard to specify any specific reason here in developed nations like the US. A really general reason is due to a lack of trust in the abilities, intentions, and knowledge of medical professionals.

Another really general reason is willful ignorance

There's an outbreak in my city. I got the shot as a child. I've seen that 5 people who got the shot still caught the measles. I haven't had a flu shot in a long time. My sister gets it and always ends up getting sick. So maybe that's why people are anti vaccine?
My mom got the ruebella shot while pregnant with me and it's believed that it may have caused my heart defect. Doctor's can't figure out what caused it though. She doesn't get any vaccines either. Same with my dad.

i think its really stupid, and the excuse i hate the most is 'itll give my kid autism'
if this was the case (which it isnt) surely it would be a lot easier to look after your kid and manage their autism, than have to organize their funeral bc they died from something that could have been prevented, or to look after them 24/7 bc they are disabled bc of the same thing

another thing that annoys me is that it puts people who cant get vaccines at risk, people with no immune system bc of cancer and stuff, pregnant ppl etc.

Over here a bunch of people got narcolepsy from a regular influenze vaccine, had their lives ruined.

At least they got a few million in compensation?

Like Dr. Oz, some people are anti-vaxx in order to sell their own snake oil.

"Chemicals and vaccines are bad! Buy my natural supplements for only 4 payments of $19.99!!!"

This what an anti-vaxxer doctor had to say about the issue. Absolutely disgusting.

And now he's under investigation.
