Default UPS Lost my 3DS

So it looks to be that while sending my 3DS in for repair, they lost my package. I called them up and they have started an investigation. My 3DS had the SD card inside as is required for the repair but I believe I have an SD card at my house with a backup of my data. My question is can that card be used for a new 3DS if they don't find mine? I believe the save data is specific to one 3DS but just want to double check if this is possible. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

I think that SD card is still tied to your lost 3DS in that case.

I think you can talk to Nintendo to transfer that SD card to a new 3DS but since you've already lost one already through the mail that might be more hassle than it's worth.

I hope they find your lost 3DS tho.

Yeah, if you call Nintendo CS, they can restore your games to another 3DS. You need the serial number and NNID though.

Awesome! Would I have to send in the new 3DS?

Nintendo has stated several times that they do not replace digital games or purchases if a system is lost or stolen, I do not know how this bodes with an SD card having data on it, however I can easily see a large number of technical problems seeing as a system transfer is local wireless only, and not over the internet.
