I mean they did shoot themselves in the foot with all these damn names and generations, but I hate the idea of punishing the well informed because of the uninformed and poor Nintendo product differentiation.
I am still heart broken about not having the smaller version. I loved how portable it was, I've tweeted Nintendo multiuple times asking for it :'(.

Jokes on them. I had planned on buying a standard New 3DS as my first entry into the whole *DS* world..BUT the news that they aren't selling them in the US, AND the fact that the XL versions don't have a charger included (seriously, wtf? Why would you do that?) mean's I'll simply not being buying one at all.
It's a real shame, because there's a few 3DS games I really, really wanted to finally try out after a longg wait, and now I'll not get to try them unless the standard 3DS does eventually get released. Whole avalanche of really stupid business decisions by nintendo. Their loss I suppose. |

I'd say the major reason is that the XL model is just more popular, and to cut costs, they cut production of the non-XL models.
The charger thing isn't so much a huge problem since I seem to see lots of those at Gamestops, and also since people upgrading already should have a charger. |

I agree, getting a charge cord is not all that hard. This is the first time I've bought into the 3DS and I'm glad it turned out the be the NEW 3DS XL. If I had a choice, I would have bought the bigger one anyway.

It's not hard but if they can figure out to read the case for the charger they should be able to figure out how to read what model it is too.
Why would Europe get it and not NA? I just don't get it.

I'm guessing the REAL reason has something to do with either retail space or stock problems. |

> now, there's the 2DS, 3DS, and New 3DS XL
It's my understanding that the original 3DS is gone so now we have the 2DS, the (original) 3DS XL, and the New 3DS XL -- nothing can be called simply a "3DS" in North America. Maybe they should have called it the 3DS XL Advance (or XLA). It worked before. |

Marketing is everything in the US and NoA keeps dropping the ball. There have been some good things like the e3 event/treehouse live which was amazing but very mediocre performance outside of that. |

Bigger push during the holidays. Just better advertising in general. |

It's really very short-sighted by NOA. If they sold just a quarter as many of the smaller New 3DS as they do of the larger version, think about how many faceplates they could sell to go with them. I mean, look at how many Amiibos have been sold in North America alone and they'd probably sell a ton of faceplates.
But obviously NOA knows the NA market better than us. After all, these are the same geniuses who didn't want to release Xenoblade Chronicles over here, a game that now sells for $80 for a used copy on Amazon.

The problem here without the charger included is simple, if someone is upgrading from the previous models, yes they have a charger already, but if they want to trade it in for credit they have to give up the charger. If they don't already have a system, then they have to shell out more money for said charger.
Also, the lack of a smaller unit is a problem seeing as more people are wanting to be able to carrying their systems in their pockets, and more kids these days are wearing skinny jeans, and such, so an XL system is not likely to fit in their pockets. I bought my New 3DS from Grainger Games, out of the UK, and my New 3DS LL from Gamestop in Mass, US. So far I'm not seeing much of a difference between the two other than the physical size, and the cover plates.
