How are you ment to connect a wrist strap when the place to put it on is on top of the console almost in the middle? your average wrist strap is too short to connect to your wrist while playing on the new 3ds xl, it really bothers me as I'm afraid of dropping it while playing (depending on where I am), it was'nt a problem with the previous model as it was on the bottom corner

I never thought of it like that. To me a wrist strap is used for help with carrying around.

I wonder if getting a wrist strap for the iPhone would work?

Or a wrist strap from any other manufacturer.
