Default Do you pre-order?

(This topic was brought up in the How is your experience with the NEW 3DS? thread and I thought it was thread worthy.)

I know there are lot of criticisms to be had in regards to pre-ordering. Some game developers will do the annoying practice of having pre-order exclusives with various retailers.

But the main issue is the concept of giving money to developer/publisher with no guarantee that the end product will be the quality that the advertising hypes it up to be.

Personally: Most of the games/products I have pre-ordered have been from Nintendo with the occasional Atlus title. I am pretty cautious about which games/products I do pre-order so I have yet to regret pre-ordering.

What's your experience/opinion with pre-ordering?

I sometime pre-order if I like the Game Series, like The Legend Of Zelda or Pokemon. I've had some good experiences with Pre-orders, but I haven't done it much.

I only pre-order games that I'm basically positive I'll like, and systems from mostly reliable companies.

I have had every playstation on launch, including portables, and I've never had one break in anyway.

For games again never been disappointed, I know myself well enough, and games well enough to know what I'll like. I don't blindly preorder unproven series, like Watch Dogs, or coming up "The Division". Games where the products have been nothing short of amazing like Uncharted and The Witcher, I have no problem preordering.

I've been following MKX since the beginning and this will be my next pre-order, INCLUDING the DLC ( Making it $90 ), because I believe it looks like a quality product with a ton of heart. The DLC characters are expensive but 2 of them are extremely awesome licensed characters, and they are cool enough for me to pay extra for.

Games I'm not so sure about I wait till steam sales for $10 or under. Console games I wait for sub 20's since console games are more expensive.

I stated in the other thread I only preorder games I know I will enjoy or if I liked the demo enough to get the full game. If I'm unsure about a game, I usually wait to see what most people think about it first and then decide whether I want it or not.

Also, Special Editions, like the Majora's Mask 3D steelbook, Skull Kid figure and cool preorder bonuses, like the A Link Between Worlds musical treasure chest, for examples, are a deciding factor with preordering for me.

Sometimes you just have to preorder things or else you'll miss out.

I've yet to regret preordering a game, but I do somewhat regret preordering the original 3DS back when it launched in 2011. It's not that I didn't like the system, just the whole $100 price drop thing shortly after it launched was annoying.

I generally don't preorder unless its a limited print of a game I know will be good.

Otherwise I'll just pick up the game when i feel like it

I don't like the idea of pre-ordering because I can't know if what I pre-ordered will be good beforehand. Also there's hardly ever any incentive to pre-order here since we rarely get any bonuses and therefore I might as well go pick up the game on release, without making a commitment, never heard of any games being sold out in my city XD

Software: Nope, absolutely no point unless it's limited edition or has a bonus I want that can only be had through preordering.

Systems: Yes, if I plan on buying day one.

i've preordered and purchased on launch day for years and rarely, if ever, have had this happen. i tend to not buy the sort of games for which this is a concern, evidently.

so i have no issue with preordering

Yea what do you mean, like the company says 'wow we already have so many pre-orders, why waste time finishing the game if they're already buying it!'

Because I feel like that would be as bad for them as it would for us...

I do, but only if I can get it on some sort of sale or I just want the game really badly

I only pre-order games I'm 100% sure I'll like, so luckily I've never ended up with a regrettable purchase. It might seem useless to pre-order games like Smash that are gonna be in stock no matter what. But you never know, the day Kirby Triple Deluxe came out I got the only copy in the whole area because I pre-ordered. Also it goes without saying I'll pre-order anything I want that's limited edition in a heartbeat, especially amiibos since any of them that aren't common are practically guaranteed to not get a restock.

I used to pre-order from playasia but thats it. Gamestops and Best buys and Targets are all around me so I've never had trouble finding a game.

I used to pre-order Pok?mon games, but not anymore. I haven't pre-ordered anything in forever due to me having so many games to play. With some games, I'll just buy them around release time (this is what I've done so far with SM4SH, Pok?mon Y, and Majora's Mask 3DS).

I very rarely pre-order. I never got into the habit, and there's something about going out the day of a release and picking up a game/item naturally at a store. I can't really describe it.

The only item I'm attempting to pre-order these days (and funny enough, it's today) is the Ness Amiibo. I'm not even an Amiibo collector (too much stress involved), but my crazy-big love for EarthBound wants this piece for my EarthBound collection. It'll most likely be impossible for me to get it otherwise.
Stay frosty.

Sadly I'm forced to pre-order to get some of the items I want or else they'll be taken out quickly. (Fire Emblem being sold out everywhere for about a week as an example)

Usually I only pre-order Nintendo games I know I'll love since they always live up to my expectations. (not you Yoshi New Island)
Don't practice until you get it right. Practice until you can't get it wrong.
