Unhappy Black Screen of Death

Hello everyone.
I bought a Japanese New Nintendo 3DS LL last week and it arrived yesterday. I spent all day setting up my Network ID and creating my Mii. This is the first ever Nintendo console that I have bought. I was going to post this in Club Nintendo but it seems that it is shutting down and doesn't let me register. Anyway today I tried turning it on but I can't see the screens. I only hear the background music and I can see the power + WiFi buttons on. I read that the WiFi might be a problem but I don't know how to turn it off since my screens aren't working.
I tried going outside to see if it would fix the problem. I also tried charging it and then letting it run out of battery (but it doesn't seem to run out.) I have turned it off and on many times. If I close the lid, the music stops and doesn't go back on. In the short amount of time that I have used the 3DS, I have taken good care of it. I even have a hard case, a soft case, and a screen protector. I haven't even used the 3D feature. Yesterday, I got lots of errors but I was able to do an update to the e-Shop.
The screens are completely black now. I thought this would be a high-quality purchase but even on the back of the Nintendo it says "Made in China." I can't believe it broke in a few hours. I haven't even played any games yet (except for those in the system.) At first I thought I had turned it off the wrong way and that it was in sleep mode but that doesn't seem to be the case. I am at an Intermediate level of Japanese so there was a lot of stuff that I didn't understand at first, but I was able to set up an account and everything. I actually bought it to practice and advance my Japanese level.
I'm going to try changing the SD card tonight and I will let you know if it works. I just wanted to know in advance if I can repair a Japanese Nintendo in the US or would I have to send it back to Japan? Also how much would it cost? Is there any sort of warranty?
Please help me. Thanks.

When I bought mine, around the release date, eventually it inherited the "black screen of death." Mine came with a warranty, and I was able to contact Nintendo and have them replace the screen. I haven't had screen issues since.

I'm not sure about a Japanese one, but I would think it'd have a warranty. You're not trying to use U.S. games with it, are you? Because, the 3DS family systems are region-locked. AKA, you won't be able to play a U.S. game on a Japanese system.

Both times my screens went black I was able to fix it by turning off the system, removing the SD card, formatting it in my laptop, restoring the SD card with my backup file, putting it back in, then restarting the 3DS. I will also note that each time it happened was on different 3DS's. Once on my 3DS XL and again a year later on the "New" 3DS XL. The first time it happened was the morning after a system software update on my old XL and the second time was again after a system software update the same night I did the system transfer over to the "New" 3DS XL. I will also note that the WiFi connection was having issues both times resulting in errors and update restarts.

Anyway, I hope everything works out for you.

HEY HEY HEY, Don't say it is not a high-quality purchase, Most 3ds's don't have this problem, but some do, your system is just defective or damaged, call Nintendo and see what they say.

I hope this helps -Jacob

This is true, I own several 3DS's(I collect the Special/Limited Edition 3DS's) and my wife and daughter are both now on their 2nd having upgraded to the "New" 3DS XL and the only problems we've had so far on all of them were my 2 issues with black screens. Now, I haven't opened and played all my Special Edition ones, but counting the ones I have plus my wife and daughter's we're talking about a total of 8 3DS's with virtually no real major problems.

Also, these things are pretty resilient. Keep in mind that Nintendo designs these things knowing young children are going to put them to some decent resilience tests inadvertently just by playing them. Nintendo knows kids are tough on toys and they build these things to literally take a beating.

Hi guys! I sent it back and they fixed it! Now that I've been playing for a while, I realize that it was a great purchase. Thanks for your help. Sorry if I offended you!
