Well, I am re-new. I played video games as a kid in then80's and 90's. The last system I had was a superNES and sega genesis. My brother got a play station and I played twisted metal and a few other games with him after that and not a thing since.
I downloaded clash of clans and have been obsessively playing that. My thought I would like a system to play on the go. I think I want the new 3ds xl, but am not sure. I have Ben playing a Sony vita, the graphics are great, the size of the device is great, but the games are nowhere to be found. I've been playing final fantasy x and is is so cheesy it's almost unplayable. The rest seem to be of the type where I am a character that walks around doin missions, like borderlands two or assassins creed, which are fun and then get a little boring. I remember liking Zelda and super Mario brothers and that sort of thing so maybe I would be better off with Nintendo. The only thing that scares me off is that 99% of the titles look like they are for little kids, like not even teenagers, but like under ten years old. Lego and Pokemon and Barbie and stuff. Any advice? |

![]() honestly pokemon is great regardless of age, im 18 and ive been playing since yellow was out basically and dont see myself not playing it any time soon, and i know of people older than me that still play pokemon also there are games like fire emblem, this was a pretty unknown series until awakening came out, and its really good and another one i like which is really fun is fantasy life, you choose a job you want to do in game and you can advance to master level in that rank (or god level if you get the dlc), and there are 12 different jobs you can choose from, and you can switch them at any time then like you mentioned you have your marios and zeldas which never really change, i liked zelda: link between worlds and also theres smash bros 4, i have the wii u version and its really fun, just choose a nintendo character (or your mii) and fight mario, link, and pikachu all in one battle those are just a few i recommend

If you like Mario and Zelda then there's Super Mario 3D Land and Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds as 3DS exclusives to start you out. There's also New Super Mario Bros. and the Zelda remakes, which might be new to you. I'd also say Mario Kart 7 and Luigi's Mansion are not "under 10" games.

I think the 3DS is a great system for new gamers in general! I'd suggest Super Smash Bros 3DS, Luigi's Dark Mansion, Legend of Zelda: Link Between Worlds, Super Mario 3D Land. I also think if you like RPGs I'd suggest checkin' out Fantasy Life!

I also played back in the 80's and 90's and I love my 3DS. One game you might really enjoy is Ultimate NES Remix. It takes a bunch of games from the old 8bit NES and tests your skills(but don't worry, you don't have to be a gaming prodigy to win) with completing different tasks as fast as possible. It also mixes things up as the name of the game suggests by seeing if you can do things like beat the first level of Donkey Kong with Link not being able to jump over barrels. It really is quite fun. And if you like there is a plethora of old NES, Sega Master System, GameBoy, and Arcade games from the 80's and 90's available on the eShop for usually $7 or less. I have over 70 games downloaded on my 3DS with about 50 of them being Virtual Console games.
In short, get a 3DS, you won't regret it. |

Oh, I almost forgot to mention, Kirby Triple Deluxe. If you ever played Kirby's Adventure on the old NES then you will like this game. I don't see people recommend or even mention this game too often, but when it is it is always spoken of fondly. Heck, speaking of the old NES Kirby's Adventure, Nintendo re-released it on the 3DS having remastered the game and added 3D functionality to it. Some of the 3DS games that have been ported or re-released with 3D functionality added didn't really do it right like Super Street Fighter IV. Don't get me wrong, I like Super Street Fighter IV on the 3DS, it plays fine and is a good game, but the 3D effect they added to the game kinda feels like an after thought. It was like they last minute added the feature so they could boast the game had 3D functionality and maybe sell more copies, but this isn't the case for Kirby's Adventure. Nintendo did a great job with it. If you play the old Kirby with the 3D turned on its almost like playing a whole new game. Nintendo also did a good job adding 3D to Excite Bike, Twin Bee, Kid Icarus, Urban Champion, and Xevious in their 3D CLASSICS Collection. Sega has also done a pretty good job adding 3D functionality to Sonic the Hedgehog, Outrun, After Burner II, and a couple others.

Now is a great time to get a 3DS, especially since you now have access to the New 3DS.
If you decide to get a 3DS, you might want to read my guide - I wrote it to help people decide on which 3DS model to get: http://3rdworldgeeks.com/2015/08/07/...-buyers-guide/ |

If you're new to videogames, the Nintendo 3DS is a great console to start with. It's easy to setup and get the hang of, even more so than most other consoles. I would recommend asking for the New Nintendo 3DS XL.
