Default (SPOILERS INSIDE) True Detective Season 2 Finale Live-Watch Thread

So the extra-long season finale for True Detective season 2 is airing in a bit and I thought i'd make a thread for us to discuss the episode as it airs. Warning: If you don't want spoilers then don't come in here. Okay then, any guesses as to who bird-man is? I'm hoping it's not "Super unknown character that only showed up once in the entire season" That'd be pretty stupid. So yeah, you guys gonna be watching?

Okay so I'm finally done. Gotta say, the episode was pretty darn good. Just like in season 1, the case, though important, isn't all the show's about. It's about the detectives and the way the case affects them and I think Pizzolatto did a good job with that this season too. Sorta. We got that killer tagline from Velcoro early in the season which I think was the central theme of the season. "We get the world we deserve." Now looking at Frank and Ray, sure we liked them because everyone else was a piece of **** but that doesn't mean they deserved their happy ending. These were men who had done bad things. They had tortured, they had extorted and they had killed. I think what sets True Detective apart from other cop shows is that it's more realistic. As bad as we want it to, in real life there are no complete happy endings. The good guys don't always win and the bad guys don't always end up in jail. And that's what we got here. Ray and Frank don't get all they wanted because that's not how life works. And sure it's ****ed up and sure it feels sucky as hell that the bad guys got out of it mostly unscathed but that's how things go sometimes. But things aren't all darkness and stormy skies. Velcoro's kid finally grew a little stronger. Woodrough's kid gets to grow up believing his dad was a ****ing hero. And who knows? Maybe the story will hit the Times and maybe Chessani and Burris will get their comeuppance. Who can say what will happen? As for me, I'm just looking forward to next season. Gimme more Pizzolatto! Just don't **** anyone over as much as Woodrough. Dude got it bad for no reason.

Yea good episode. Frank's death march was the highlight for the me. Absolutely knew Frank and Ray were going to die because of that whole ''we''ll see each other in the crowds'' talk between Jordan and Frank. Ray's death was prophesied since episode 3 in his dream with his Dad. It was neat to see Velcoro and Caspere's murderer team up for a resounding ten minutes before he went nuclear. The whole season was still a solid ''ok'' for me. It's cool that the theme was extremely OP corrupted officials getting away with everything but I still wanted a little something more. A Season 3 is confirmed iirc correctly, hopefully it will be great.

Also pay your respects to Chad:
