Only a like. When used correctly for games such as Splatoon, it's an amazing controller that can't be replicated.
When used incorrectly for games such as Watch_Dogs and numerous others, it is a burden that I would prefer using pro controller. The battery life is atrocious, and the charger is a pain to find considering mine has it's wires off kilter.

I like the Gamepad and the idea of it, but like others have said, there aren't that many games that utilize it's full potential.
I liked the use of an extra screen for maps, touch controls and gyro/motion controls for Pikmin 3, Wind Waker HD and Splatoon. I also like the ability to use it as a drawing tablet with posts and Art Academy that I can share on Miiverse.

The gamepad is a great off-screen peripheral and works well with some specific games like Splatoon or Zelda, but otherwise I'd prefer something more traditional. It really shouldn't have been packaged with the system.
The pro controller is one of the best I've ever used and it's replaced my 360 controller for PC games. |
