Default New to 3DS

Hey everyone

Today I finally purchased the new 3ds XL, this is my first time owning one. I love Nintendo games like Mario and donkey kong, but I also have a couple games in mind that I'd like to play.

I've always heard how awesome Zelda games are, so I wanted to give it a try, but where should I start? Which one should I purchase first? The other game I want to play is metal gear, but I know they've released different versions, which one should I buy first so I can follow the story better.

I would also love if you guys could recommend so games that you guys think are must have on the 3ds

Thanks

hey, i would recommend u to start zelda with a link between worlds, the difficulty is quite low but it captures the zelda feel perfectly
other games i would recommend :
mario 3d land
Kid icarus
Luigi's mansion 2
mario and luigi dream team
resident evil revelations
donkey kong country returns if u didnt play it on wii
xenoblade is the best JRPG in this decade, MUST HAVE
Pokemon XY/ alpha omega

Ocarina of Time is the quintessential Zelda title regardless of anyones personal opinion on it. It perfectly encapsulates what defines the Zelda franchise, all the games released after it are direct sequels to it, most of the series' icons found their origin in that game and its the most popular game in the series. The 3D remake of it is easily the best starting point for anyone not interested in plowing through the games in release order.

Majora's Mask is also available on 3DS and is another fan favorite, focusing more on NPC interactions and replacing the traditional high fantasy with a more atmospheric experience, but considering its a direct sequel it's better saved until after you completed OoT. Link Between Worlds is pretty fun for what it is too despite being a pretty experimental title, and would give you a taste of what 2D Zelda has to offer, though if you really want to dive into 2D Zelda then you should definitely grab Link's Awakening off of the 3DS eshop first.
Tri Force Heroes is a weird multiplayer co-op spinoff that's not really like anything else in the series so you could probably consider it optional. Check out the demo if you're curious.

The 3DS is a bad system for jumping into Metal Gear though, since its extremely story heavy and the only game on 3DS is a weak port of MGS3. Grab MGS1 on PSN and buy the HD collection if you have access to those.

Are there any genres you're particularly looking for?

Seems like you have a similar taste to me. I was in the same boat with zelda and started with a link between worlds which I had a blast with, so I would definitely recommend it!

Other than that my other top games for the 3DS would be

-Pokemon X/Y
-Animal Crossing New Leaf
-Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon
-Super Mario 3D Land

and honorable mentions to Paper Mario Sticker Star, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D and Super Smash bros 4.

Mario Kart 7. The online play is still going strong four years later.

The Zelda games are good. So is super smash bros. Also the Pokemon games are really good. And you can't go wrong with fire emblem or any of the final fantasy titles. If you want to trade friend codes I am always up for it.
