Exclamation Can't connect 3DS to Internet

Hello guys,

Hope all is good!

I have a small problem with my 3DS-XL unfortunately. I used to be able to connect fine to my router back home, but now I moved to London as a student and I live at an apartment which has a router shared by all students provided by the University. In that network (Called KeySurf) in order to login to the net, you have to connect to it and then the ISP's page (KeySurf) opens that prompts you to add your UserName and Password in order to gain access. I can do that fine on my iPhone and Laptop (the connection is also great!), but that's not the case with my 3DS.

On the 3DS, I can find the Wi-Fi (KeySurf) and am able to connect to it, however it can't establish an internet connection since somehow you have to add your credentials (UserName/Password). Unfortunately, it won't let me do that on the 3DS since no page opens to have you insert your details upon connecting.

Someone suggested that I connect to the Wi-Fi here (even without having access to the net) and try to open the browser on the 3DS which will then prompt me to KeySurf's page in order to add my info and gain access, however when I do that after loading for some time, the Browser on the 3DS gives an error saying that it can't be launched at this time (something like that) and just closes by itself.

Also: when I choose the network from the available signals on the 3DS, I just let the default procedure go on (I have no idea what these WEP options it has are so I never tried them).

I am unable to connect to the internet and therefore can't buy games or play online.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Make your computer into a hotspot. That way you can connect first your computer to the network provided by the school. Then you search for the hotspot you made on your 3ds and simply just connect to that.
Keep in mind you need to have wifi on your computer to be able to share a hotspot from it.

Thanks for the reply Hejy!

How do I make my laptop a WiFi hotspot exactly in order for this to work? It's connected to Ethernet (cable and socket in wall) and I suppose it can be used as a hotspot. Though I can also connect my laptop wirelessly to the network (speed is slow)

Try following this guide.
http://mashable.com/2015/08/18/windo.../#ZKbYiwjhM8qX

I didnt follow that guide tho, I made my computer into an hotspot by setting it upp in the command promt (cmd) (you dont want to do this everytime you restart your computer) and when that worked i downloaded an exe file that i put the network name and password in and the file did the rest and starts the cmd everytime you restart your pc so you just have to highlight the cmd window and press enter and its upp. unfortunately i dont find the guide for my method now and you might need some knowledge of DOS to go that route. But test the method in the link if it doesnt work come back here and i will try to help the best i can.

I have a similar system at my school. I found leaving the settings at default worked but I often have to refresh the browser a few times to get it to work. I've never had it just close out immediately though. Maybe it's different on an XL?

@hejy and @tomy,

It was harder than I thought so I had to put my hacking skills to the test.

I actually managed to host a public network through the CMD prompt on my laptop. After changing the different settings of the I4 for a few hours on my ISP's services and 2 pages of commands on the CMD, I connected my 3DS fine and had internet access! However, I think our residence's ISP tracked me and halted the connection to my PC later tonight which kicked me from the network entirely. After I closed the hostednetwork sharing feature through the CMD once more I was able to login again.

Not sure if it was a coincidence but it does seem that this "block" happened to me only because my flatmate had access to the internet by the time I didn't. It was either due to something I changed that caused the drop and halted the DNS or the ISP simply blocked me after tracking the leak I caused.

I suppose I can try this again briefly if I want to download something fast from my 3DS.

If you don't hear from me, I am probably deported from the country and in jail.

PS: I can provide assistance to anyone with a similar problem if you want to connect your 3DS.

Thanks!
