Default 3DS XL transfer

Hey everyone

I currently have a new 3ds XL black that I'm gonna give my nephew and I ordered a new one for me which I will be getting tomorrow. I have never done a transfer so I'm not 100% how it works. if I have a brand new Sd card in my new 3DS, will all the saved data on my old Sd card be transferred to the new one? Or does it only transfers Data stored on the 3DS?

I'm just wondering if after the transfers done both my old 3DS and micro Sd card will be wiped out!. Thanks.

The 3DS transfer process will move the 3DS data from one 3DS to the other. During the process it should tell you what to do.

However, since the OG 3DS uses SD card and the ""new"" model uses microSD cards you may have to buy a larger microSD than the one that comes with the system

It's all here:
Here's the official website

Quote:
If your current SD card is larger than 4 GB, then you will need to use one of the following options when you perform a transfer:

Purchase a higher capacity microSD card
With this method, you can preemptively transfer your content to a microSD card before you purchase a New Nintendo 3DS by using a PC How to, or you can upgrade the microSD card in New Nintendo 3DS before performing a transfer.
Be aware that you will need a microSD card adapter to use the microSD card with a Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo 3DS XL, or Nintendo 2DS.
You will need to use a size #0 cross-head (+) screwdriver to remove the battery cover of the New Nintendo 3DS XL, so be sure to have one handy before you attempt to replace the microSD card.
For information about microSD cards that have been tested with New Nintendo 3DS, click here.
Transfer save data only using the microSD card included with the New Nintendo 3DS
If your current data will not fit on the microSD card included with the system, you will only be able to transfer save data during the system transfer process. After the process is done, you can download your data from the Nintendo eShop for no additional cost. Once downloaded, your save data will be restored for each game.
Along with your save data, your NNID (if one is being used), friends list, Nintendo eShop balance, and purchase history (including themes) will be transferred to the new system. Non-game content stored on the SD card, such as pictures, will also be transferred.
I messed up my transfer from an OG 3DS to the new one. I lost my save data but not all my purchase information. I could re-download all my digital purchases but I had lost all my progress. Very annoying but not the end of the world. In a proper transfer, you shouldn't lose anything.

Just pay attention to what you're doing and you should be fine.
