Fire Emblem: Awakening was the first game I have ever played and while I found the support elements a nice diversion- I greatly enjoyed the strategic gameplay.

With FE: Fates, they have added even more "fan service" features that involve a "rubbing" minigame where you caress your companions (including blood relatives) while they groan and/or giggle.

It seems like unnecessary "fat" in a strategy game and a drastic change in tone from previous entries that were focused on story and character.

It's definitely put a damper on my enthusiasm for further titles in the series. I'm not interested in playing waifu simulators and even if I was- I would pick up Akiba Strip or something.

Update:

The petting minigame in question has been removed from the Western Release of the game. (As well as a highly questionable support conversation featuring "magic powder".) Can't say I miss it. I know these kinds of edits are controversial in nature.

i dont want to rub my in game SO's face before battle, i just want to play rpg chess with dragons, flying horses and really cool swords, and team up with 1 team mate and become unbeatable with that team mate and kill all of the bad guys

Well it seems like FE fans cant complain too much since that stuff helps sell the game alot and keep the series alive.

Nothing in federation force is going to sell stuff for metroid, it will do the opposite.

How do you know that Federation Force will fail?

"keeping the series alive" is a weak argument.

This is like saying Spyro fans should be happy because Skylanders is successful.

It's almost unanimously hated already and the metroid fanbase wasnt exactly that big already, so almost no one will get it.

That's completely different since skylanders is a different series that just has spyro as a character in it. Awakening is the same series with the same gameplay but just some new extra things added in.

This is about potential new fans- not the old fanbase.

They certainly didn't add the otaku elements to Awakening and Fates to appeal to old fans.

Not saying they did, but if they are relatively small parts of the game that arent required and the gameplay and everything else is still good, I don't see the problem.

At least the new FE games still retain the same core gameplay. I don't think anyone has complaints about that aspect.

Without the Metroid name and designs, people wouldn't even think Federation Force is a Metroid game.

I dunno.

There's this trend in anime lately to have all this otaku BS with brother/sister incest and general creepy pedophilic stuff.

I'm just sort of frustrated/tired of it all.

That stuff is weird and creepy but as long as they dont go too far with it then it should be okay.

people should really stop complaining about it, no one is forcing you to do its completely optional. that being said the only fanservice i really like is the children mechanic

I'm ok with this. I'm so glad NoA decided to edit this.

I've been told that the support they edited was the worst in the game anyway so there's no tragic loss there.

I think the issue more that it comes far too close to sensitive topics like drugged sex and conversion therapy rather than it actually containing it.

I don't think the premise of "guy tries to help bi girl become more comfortable around cute girls and she falls in love with him" is inherently offensive, but the execution here is really clumsy. It could use to be cleaned up.

The whole idea of her character is a mess.

With fan service you always get horrible writing. Because the creators lean on tropes to sell their game/series instead of taking to time to craft a believable, compelling character.

**** this censorship bull****. this is ridiculous. The western side of gaming needs to calm down and stop getting offended by everything. It makes the japanese not want to give us ****. DOA Xtreme 3 isn't getting a release in the states because of social justice workers. It just pisses me off that they censored the game.

Nintendo hasn't even released an official statement as to why they removed it. We just have the Kotaku article. I guess I'll see in game if it's gone completely or if they just changed a few things.

DOA Xtreme 3 isn't getting a release because it's a niche title that isn't popular in the US market.

SJWs didn't do anything to stop the game from coming over here. The entire controversy was based on a poorly translated Facebook message.

Niche fanservice anime games not getting localized doesn't matter much in a world where it's so easy to import games anyway.

It's a shame Nintendo refuses to back down on the region locking department when everyone else has realized it's a bad idea. I'd be way less harsh on their localization teams if I could still buy unaltered games or stuff with no hope of being ported like Rhythm Heaven without being forced to hack my 3DS.

It would be perfect if she had an s support with the female avatar too but in this convo her whole character is a lot more natural.

Apparently they changed it so that your child Kana can no longer get married. All the other children characters can still get married. (Soliel is one of the children characters and so is Rhajat (the character that a female Corrin can marry)) And your child can S-rank any of the other children. But they rewrote the S supports for them to make them become best friends instead of married. Apparently they even propose or ask the person out in some way in some of their S supports but get rejected.
This is a really odd change. Your character can marry all the children characters. But your child can't get married at all for some reason. And your child could get married in Awakening. So, I'm not really sure why this is any different.
Edit: Apparently all/most of Soliel's S supports outside of her one with Corrin seem to lean more to be a platonic thing too. From what I can tell, in the Japanese version, Soliel's love of cute girls wasn't mentioned much outside of her supports for Corrin. But in the English version, it's apparently mentioned a lot more.
Edit 2: Apparently both Nile's and Rhajat's S supports with Corrin are the same regardless of what gender you made your Corrin. I don't know how different the supports are depending on your gender in the Japanese version. But I have heard the Japanese version same sex S supports do make specific mention of the fact that you're both the same gender. While the English S support with each of these characters is the same word for word regardless of what gender your Corrin is.

A lot of the changed supports seem pretty weird

I've heard elsewhere that people have found like 1000s of unused sound files. That post isn't all that was found. There's also data for swimsuits that you can't actually buy in the English version of the game and the names and stuff have all been translated. They've just been blocked out of the game.
Edit: Man, I just read the female Corrin/Soleil's support. Their A support really felt like build up for an S support. She really would've been a way better option than Rhajat. I know Tharja was popular. But man is Rhajat creepy. But they really should've had a gay male option for Birthright and a gay female option for Conquest. I don't know who I'd pick as the gay male option for Birthright but Soliel would've been perfect for Conquest.
