Default Final Fantasy Explorers Discussion Thread

US release date: January 26th, 2016
EU release date: January 29th, 2016

Available Jobs: Freelancer, Knight, Thief, White Mage, Black Mage, Dark Knight, Paladin, Ranger, Bard, Samurai, Ninja, Blue Mage, Red Mage, Alchemist, Monk, Dragoon, Sage, Machinist, Time Mage, Beast Master, Geomancer

So this game released today in North America and will be released in 3 days in Europe. Use this thread to discuss, although I'm not sure many here even really care much about this game. Anyway.

Went and picked this up from EBgames today, so far I've only had time to complete the character customization and the first tutorial quest.

So what job will everyone be starting out with, and what jobs are you generally interested in using? Personally, I plan to use White Mage quite a bit. Eventually I'll work towards unlocking Bard and Alchemist and I'll use those. Definitely interested to see how the online aspect fares. I've been following the threads for this game on Gamefaqs for the past few weeks, but there really wasn't any solid information on the game, mostly people just discussing rumours and stating opinions. Now that it's out, we can finally see for ourselves. I don't have high expectations, but I'm hoping it'll be fun.

Cheers!

I'm interested in this game, but since no one else is buying it, it's kinda pointless for me to get D:

Yeah, I can't rope any of my friends into buying it either, so I'm hoping the online multiplayer is do-able. I'll try it out eventually this week when I get a break from skewl.

So I thought I would give some information on this game as I play, in case anyone is interested in it.

At the beginning of the game you obviously customize your character, but you're able to edit your character's appearance in the quest hub area once you start playing. You can even change your gender, but you have to pay gil to do that.

This game does not make use of the 3D feature on the 3DS, which I found odd. This is my first 3DS game without 3D (I thought the 3D on my 3DS was broken, but after a Google search I discovered otherwise).

You start off as Freelancer, but then Black Mage, White Mage, Knight, Monk, Thief, and Ranger are quickly unlocked. Freelancer is the only job that you cannot master, if I read that somewhere correctly. If you're playing offline mode, you can bring monsters with you that you created in a monster lab or something (you need to collect a certain drop from monsters which allow you to do this).

There is this mechanic called Resonance, and what you need to do is sort of 'chain your abilities', so the more you use your abilities to fight monsters, the more your resonance meter goes up. It goes down over time, however, so this is why you have to keep chaining monster kills using your aibilities. Sometime after you get over 100 (I usually need to get 140 resonance), you can activate something called a Crystal Surge, which gives you powerups. It was a little confusing/annoying at first, but you just have to be patient (the game tells you you only need 100 resonance to activate the Crystal Surge, but it wouldn't work for me, but I read somewhere that it can sometimes take longer).

What a lot of people on Gamefaqs had beef with, was that everyone was comparing this game to MonHun, and the argument was that this was not fair. Well this game is pretty much a Final Fantasy MonHun, except toned waaay down. You collect your quests in the quest hub, then you exit onto the map to begin the quest. There are no levels, your character gets stronger by defeating monsters, collecting drops, and forging new/better equipment.

I have yet to try out the online multiplayer, I've been trying to farm for equipment that is not ultracrap. I also managed to defeat Ifrit, which was cool. I've still hardly put a dent in the game.

I picked it up recently and enjoying it a lot. I tried online a few times and have had no problems thus far. I started out as a Freelancer like everyone else now i'm a Monk gunna stick with it for awhile then change to Dragoon, and Time Mage I heard is OP.

I made a mistake, Thief is a job which you have to unlock.

I've also been playing as a Monk, mainly because I've been playing offline and just want to smash things. I just want to Bard it up!

I usually go for the Ninja/samurai classes in FF. So that's what I plan on getting to first. I really want this game but finances are slim. I would like some friends to play online with, but I think i'd be pretty content with a malboro at my side.

I played a bit online yesterday, it was good. I was helping a lower-level player finish some quests, so it was nothing strenuous/hard. I also unlocked the Alchemist and Geomancer jobs earlier today, and just now I unlocked Bard and Ninja, so I'm going to start playing as Bard now, and my abilities will mostly be White and Time Magic. Looking forward to playing online some more.

How's the online for this game still doing? It was super active at launch, it's probably still not too bad. Haven't played in a while though due to other games and stuff irl. Bard is an awesome job though, it can be a lot of fun. I always bring Raise and Reraise with me because often I'll have to spend the fight curing and raising my teammates. Haste is also a must-have for me.

I'm not sure how well it did in Japan, but it sold pretty well in North America and Europe. No one was expecting it to sell as well as it did, so the physical copies were very understocked for a while after launch. I think it did well enough that we can probably expect a sequel of some kind in the future.

A lot of shops in the UK are sold out. I got my 3DS 2 weeks ago and straight away looked for FF Explorers. No shops had it - in the end I got of eBay for a very cheap price. Amazon would have been my only other option.
