I want to buy a new 3DS and give my old one to my kids. But I don't want an XL. Is there any plan to release the regular size one in the US?

The regular size has been released in the US as part of bundles: Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer in October 2015 and Pokemon 20th Anniversary in February 2016. As of now there are 9 of the Animal Crossing units on Amazon for $236. The Pokemon one is more expensive and only available through third parties. You could call around some local game stores and ask if they have them. I lucked into a limited edition 3DS XL a few years ago that had been sitting unopened in the back of a local game store (not a chain).
