Default 3DS XL Changing Date & Time?

Hey guys. I recently bought a refurbished 3DS XL from nintendo, and I'm having issues with the date and time changing. It seems to happen when I close it and it goes to sleep, or when I turn it off, and back on. I've heard it's a battery issue, in which case I don't have a problem buying a new one.

I've had the unit open and removed the battery. Visually, it appears to be fine.

Any help/thoughts would be appreciated.

I've never seen this myself...

Is it ONLY the time that seems to change?

How long can you play the system on a full charge?

What about if you charge the battery then turn the system off, leave it for a while then turn back on?

Does the time remaining correct or has it changed despite the battery having plenty of charge?
