It's cool. It will be neat to see how it will all play out.

I had extremely low expectations going into this trailer and it turned out better than expected. First off, I love the overall design of both the dock/tablet parts. The Switch actually looks quite attractive and modern. I'm definitely interested in buying one. Most likely not at launch, though. I'm deeply concerned about how third party developers will treat this platform after launching some software on it. I really want to see Nintendo kick into high gear this time and persuade these guys to continue supporting them for years to come.

I think the design looks weird and a little hideous, but I do think the idea of it is pretty neat. This seems like they just basically took the idea of the Wii U and did it right this time. I'm looking forwards to it and seeing both Zelda BotW versions compared against each other so I can decide which is the superior version to get.

I like the name, Switch. It's catchy, easy to say and remember and the biggest plus is it breaks away from the Wii brand. Will take some time getting used to not referring to it as the NX anymore.

As for the games shown, I couldn't tell if that was a new Mario Kart or just Mario Kart 8 with new content for Switch. The Splatoon game shown definitely looked like it could be Splat2n, but then again it still could be the same game with new content. Just have to wait and see.

I'm unsure on how I feel about the Nintendo Switch. I ended up watching Will Smiths music video Switch. Lol, I'm gonna probably get it the day it comes out. I saw that skyrim was in the preview. Kind of torn between the PS4 and Switch for that game. Can't wait to see what the home menu looks like. Wonder if we're able to link our nnids with it.

Meh. .

It's pretty gimmicky but it was relieving to see third party support.

For me the idea of a handheld and a console in one is more than just a gimmick, it's a solution to a real problem for me. I get way more time to game than I get exclusive use of the TV.

The idea of stopping mid game and taking the handheld to a friends, on the train or to the office really appeals to me. I spend a lot of time on a handheld and only some time on a home console. If they were both the same machine then that is awesome. WiiU didn't bridge the gap as I had hoped...

The separate controls that make up the handheld IS a bit of a gimmick as far as I'm concerned and I could do without that.

If this thing ends up being around $300, there's no way I can't be there day 1. I need it.

My question is what are your favorite games that feature character customization?

Now that its confirmed that the Switch will not be backwards compatible and that it only has one screen, people are now seeing that this will be the end of Dual screen gaming...the one that the DS family is known for.

Personally, not only will I miss it deeply but it will mostly feel like a step backwards to what we have now.

Do you think the Switch will end the Dual Screen gaming?

Most likely yea, it would be redundant to have another handheld now when the switch is both. The 3ds had tons of console like games anyway, except not on the level of a true console game. The market for handhelds is mostly all going to mobile.

I'm placing my bet that the tablet doesn't NEED to be docked and the mains lead can be plugged direct into the tablet for dual screen gaming. Away from a TV the tablet is wide enough for side by side dual views...with the ability to swap the screens to the left or right to accomodate for left and right handers... I'm just speculatimg but I hope I'm right! Seems mad to kill dual screen off after it's been such as big success in DS.

I'm not really that hyped. Well I AM that Nintendo has finally announced their new system, but I just find it hard to get myself ?ber hyped up over something I so far know very little about. Can't wait to hear more of it in a few months time. Long wait, but it's not too brutal.

If there's no more duel screen gaming, I wonder how Splatoon would work on a single screen since it focuses on using the touch screen to keep track of the match and all the players, plus jumping to a teammate by touching their location and some special weapons also make use of the touch screen.

Agreed. I'm optimistic and skeptical at the same time. While the system holds strong potential, there are many things that haven't been brought to the table yet (battery life, online capabilities, price, third party software line up). The developers list was nice and all but it all means nothing when their support doesn't stick around for very long.

Both the initial Wii U and Vita announcements are proof of this.

The reason why this is the case, is because development time is the real issue.

Supporting 2 fully blown consoles, instead of one in current gen is almost impossible with the development times we currently have ( they get even worse the time goes on )

This counts for any console that is capable of pushing detailed 3D environments.

This is why sony just thrown the vita in the market and hoped somebody would develop games for it, much like the psp. but didn't spend much resources themsevles towards it, because they already have a hard time pushing titles to there main platform.

The switch will fix this for nintendo, there development for titles speed will go up big time, and no longer you will have people complain about not having the title for there perfered nintendo console

In my vision switch is the dream handheld, but a console nobody wants or cares about.

Because it's mobile, the hardware is not going to compete with current gen consoles.

This means in short, it will be a nintendo machine sololy, and that will effect the price perception of things. Because it's going to be seen as a handheld because of this by the west.

With this in my mind, the price is really the biggest obstacle when it comes to thie switch.

If it launches at 199 with zelda packed in, this thing is going to sell like hot cakes. Specially if they anounce a new mario 64, and let a bit sized version of both ( development teams ) that are working on it. Outsource remasters of older games. And this thing will have really good support straight out of the gate.

Specially when the innitional install base because of that 199 euro package, is going to be big. It will attract attention from developers outside of nintendo and get games for it.

If nintendo screws it up with 250+ euro's without any games like the 3DS / wii-u launch, i can see the switch bomb entirely.

I'm not one to over hype or be pessimistic about new things when little to nothing is known about them. I'm also not one to read into and obsess over all the rumors. I'll decide what I truly think of Switch when Jan 12th comes.

I am a little disappointed there will be enhanced ports of Mario Kart 8, Splatoon, Mario Maker, Smash, etc. instead of new ones... it IS a new system. I guess Nintendo wants to keep these popular games going and will eventually (hopefully) make brand new versions of them after a few years?
