Clearly you are a spawn of Nightmaremoon and are just trying to abolish the friendship us bronies share...

I tried to think of something bad about poni. The only thing I could come up with is that there's only like 9.5 hours of it.

Have an extra couple minutes though: YouTube - ‪Friendship is Witchcraft - "The Perfect Swarm" (Abridged)‬‏

I'm honored to be a part of a fandom that Fox has officially announced to be "Better than Terrorism."

Would this thread have 52 pages if the show wasn't good?

Really? Nobody got that? In the old G.I.Joe cartoon, they had little short clips giving advice and safety tips to kids. At the end of each one, the kid would say "now i know!" and a GIJoe guy would say "and knowing is half the battle" than the GIJoe theme song starts with a bunch of guys singing "gee i joooooooe..."

I thought at least one person would've gotten the joke...

If you dont like it then you dont like it. Its each to their own, really. and we wont judge you if you completely hate it.

But here's a suggestion.. watch more than one episode! you cant judge the whole series just by one episode along

Especially since the first episode is a two parter. You start watching one, and then 3 hours latter you realize that you are still watching.

I was surprised myself when I started watching it. I mainly decided to try it out because I read Friendship is Magic was made by the creators of Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. Now I go to Equestria Daily, well, daily, and I can't wait for season two.

It really boils down to personal taste, I guess.. the majority of us just find the show really adorable. The characters are likable and unlike the older generation pony cartoons this one doesn't insult our intelligence.

People hate the cartoon and people love the cartoon.

Its really hard to explain.

Also you shouldn't spout your opinion like its fact. People will disagree and call you a troll :P

I never truly cared for the online gamer scene :P

CoD is riveted with snotty nosed little brats who's parents obviously never gave a damn.

Halo... well, I hardly ever hear word of what's going on with that series nowaday.

I have played Lord of the Rings Online for about a few weeks, but it got boring real fast. that's about as far as I've come in the online scene.

nope, I'll stick with my single player adventure games :3 I'm playing Metroid Prime for the fiftieth time now. woot!

But how a man or even a teen boy can become a fan of such a series? I mean, it's for children girls! I don't understand!

I just want to know! I don't want a big freaking TL;DR text to explain, I just want something short! Also, that Know Your Meme article didn't help me at all.

It's simple.

We are a fan of Lauren Faust's work. I discovered the show through following her on Deviantart, not through 4chan or SomethingAwful.
If you ever watched Fosters or Power Puff Girls when you're younger, the cartoons her husband made and she was a head writer on, the show has an extremely similar vibe. She designed the show with both adults AND children in mind, just like her other works, so it's not a surprise it's built up a pretty vocal fanbase.

All the outside stuff made by bronies just makes FiM even more engaging and hilarious.

I used to watch The Powerpuff Girls as a young boy, but now, as an adult, and as MANY adults, I've lost interest in any kind of children's show, unless it's a show I've watched as a kid, for the nostalgia factor.

And there's something about that "designed the show with both adults AND children in mind" thing I just got while writing this. I guess they did this so that the children's parents have something to like in this show while watching it with their children. Do you agree?

Anyway, I'm not a Brony, and I will never become one. I was becoming an anti-MLP, but thanks to your post, I won't become one. I will simply leave you practicing your Brony fandom.

In fact, this is exactly what she said when questioned about it.
She associates with the parents who are forced to watch many of the garbage kids cartoons currently on air, and wanted to give them a show that they could enjoy just as much as their children.

It was originally meant to be even more adult oriented, actually, with ongoing story lines and character development, but Hasbro told her to take a more episodic route.

Really? That would be pretty sweet! Though, if it were only aimed at an older Audience, it would lose its charm and why its fun to be a brony.

You haven't watched the rest of season 1 yet?! Son I am dissappoint. Seriously however this thread will pick up when ever season two decides to come out. You know I seriously thought the FiM fanbase would take a huge hit during the wait for season two, but I was wrong.

Could you guys help me with something? I'm petrified that Hasbro has noticed the Brony fanbase and the direction of the show is going to pull a 180 and start throwing in unnecessary content/fan-service to it's older demographic because Hasbro thinks it's profitable. I'm not sure why I think this I just do, to be honest I worried about tie-ins/cameos of fan-fics and the inclusion of, well, dirty or inappropriate jokes. I think it has to do with the Bridlemaids bill-board, I just need to be reassured that season 2 will be the same as season 1 in terms of jokes and it's targeted audience. Please.

I was thinking the same thing when I saw the billboards and the Equestria Gurls video. We love MLP because it really isn't made for us. It's made with us bronies in mnd, but the mane (lol) democrafic is still little girls, which is what makes it interesting in the fact that it is so well made and likable.

I have always been a big fan of animation. I am a big disney fan and loved cartoons when I was younger. As I got older, there naturaly was less cartoons I liked. There was still a few, like Avatar the Last Airbender and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. Then I got into anime. It was a good way to still enjoy my love of animation without feeling like I was stooping down to another level that was meant for younger audiences. I love Friendship is Magic. It has great animation, memorable characters, sends a message, and it seems like it is meant for everyone.

I'm not too worried about season 2. While I do think that there will still be shoutouts to the brony fans, take Derpy Hooves (Ditzy Doo) for example. I read that they will include her in season 2. However I doubt that they will go overboard and abandon the children who are fans of the show.

Moop205, Metroid Zeaot thanks! That helps me calm down a might bit, however I don't think this naught in my stomach will unravel till I actually watch all of season two. I'm actually not worried about Derpy Hooves or stuff like that, for some un-know reason I got it in my head that there was a chance the show might get perverted or dirty and that freaked me out even though I know that probably would never happen. I guess I just value FiM so much I'm terrified that the produces might do something to ruin it. On an unrelated topic, it is confirmed the ponies are herbivores (with the exception of a few eggs and maybe milk) right? I heard someone arguing they weren't and that they ate meat, not only did that freak me out it left some questions in my head because Pinkie clearly stated they were vegetarians (herbivores, I guess) plus what would the cutie mark of a pony whose special talent is butchering look like? I mean ew!

This thread is where I first heard about the fan community. It is also where I first heard about bronies (I admit that I am a brony, but I don't like the name. It makes me sound like a frat boy.). I got hooked from this thread. I am now a fan of My little Pony, and for some reason, I'm ok with that.

About the NES game, I think they are cursed ghosts that look like skeletons.

So after a long hiatus and finishing up the last few episodes of Adventure Time, I've once again made Friendship my highest viewing priority. I've got 9 more episodes to go on the MenloMarseilles playlist.

Added after 16 minutes:

Whoever does the advertising for FiM needs a huge raise.

A HUGE ONE.

I love all the effort that went into the commercial, like how there's so many little things there to see, and how every article and page is fully done, without any random gibberish to take up space.

I gave this series a try, I thinking 5 episodes is a good old college try no?.

my personal thoughts :

the writing was horrible and plot points felt forced and dragged on, I literally felt like I was watching an episode of Dora the Explorer.

animation is good yet it felt lazy as a lot of characters share facial traits and animations.

the entire cast save for apple pie and the main pony is mentally challenged

throught the series I couldn't help but wonder what a horrible fate it must be to live in such a dystopian world.

overall it was mildly entertaining and I'd be okay with my kids watching this however I don't see why the show has to be put on a pedestral.

also Tara Strong's voice is too sexy, if it was given a body and I met it on a dark alley I would highly consider hugging her.

I recommend if you are interested in this series, to skip the first 2 episodes. They do not reflect at all what the show is about.

Though if you've already watched those it's not that big of a deal. I started by watching the first two and now I'm just as proud to call myself a brony as anyone else in this thread. Well, save a few uberfanatics, but that's what makes their comments fun to read.

I think I'm done with this show, at least for a while. I was never a real big fan of the fanbase, I always felt as a way to get away from the fanbase I'd just stay off the computer, but when a show does nothing but tries to appeal to the very thing I'm trying to avoid well what's the point of watching it anymore? I'm going to stop now before I start a rant.

What? It's really no big deal.

It's not like they've forced all this into the main show. They just decided to put some little things into some cute advertisements. It's completely harmless. I'm sure that season 2 won't be like that.

I overreacted big time this morning. I've just been terrified that they were going to change the show somehow and this promo which is completely harmless helped to further infuriate me earlier today. I wont stop watching the show (is that even possible) I just need to stop freaking out. This morning was embarashing, Looking back the promo is actually pretty harmless and funny, I guess I just let my worries get the best of me.

That happened to me a little with the "Bridle Maids" billboard thing. The hub is just showing that they know of the older fan-base and is acknowledging it. I don't think the show will be any different in season 2, sure Faust won't be be a major part of the show production, but the rest of the crew is very aware of the importance Of keeping it childish qnd fun.

Thanks. I've been milling over the idea for several days and I kinda exploded. I've always been really protective of the things I like, it was a lot worse when I was younger. I guess I still am pretty bad. Anywho as of today I'm officially done with Equestria Daily, even before all this happened I didn't like that website, since then it's only gone downhill IMO. By the way heres a really good example of the way I acted twoards the promo, I no longer feel this way however.

Glad to hear! Fret not, I'm sure the show won't go downhill. The Hub has just acknowledged who their actual main demographic is, so they gave us that lil' promo. But remember, it is still a channel geared towards children, so if anything for some reason changes (which I doubt), the show definitely isn't going to become a pit of perverse jokes, and overused memes.

Damn ponies!
I decided to give this show a try, just for the heck of it, and now I'm hooked and I can't stop watching! I'm at episode 5 right now, but I'm not sure if I'm mentally ready to become a brony just yet!

Hey, it made me a brony too! Oh well, you can't get noticed by everybody.... :P

You know, I find it really amazing how well the success of this show has revealed the deep rooted idea of gender roles that have been implanted in almost everybody in western civilisation, what with the whole "men shouldn't watch these shows because men need to be men and men don't watch shows without excessive violence, swearing or sexual references" c**p.

This is also a great way of highlighting female privilege, with many people don't seem to accept as real. Oh well, that's my egalitarian rearing it's head, I think I'll go and ignore it with my daily dose of ponys

Welcome to the herd, hehe. You will become one of us, you can count on it, as a matter of fact it's happening right now, with every passing episode you quickly become more and more of a brony.

You know, I watched it.... and I don't see what the fuss is about. It is a good show, sure, quality animation, decent writing that doesn't condescend to kids that remains entertaining for parents... but it is still just a kids show.

I'd put it about on par with the Powerpuff Girls, Kids Next Door, or Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Is it good? Sure, but it isn't particularly earth shattering.

Hey Omega are you friends with my little pony on facebook? I am. I have to admit i did it to make my friends lolz but I still find myself reading their updates. XD So I guess I am a member of your borg army. We are the my little ponies. We Love everyone. You will be assimilated. Your biological uniqueness will be added to our collective. Resistance...is futile.

I've got a question for you guys, I personally have a problem with what is canon in the MLP world and what is not. Which is why I have a tendency to freak out, well I don't think there are any but are there references to any fan-fics in any of the episodes? Particularly that one Fan-fic, particularly in that one episode, Party of One. That "one" fan-fic even though I never read it, well I would never want anything like that to be canon. Which is why I would hate to have anything similar to that in season two. The fan-fic I'm talking about starts with a "C" and ends with an "e" and "s" I personally hate saying the name.

Why do you care so much whether the show is influenced by fan stuff or not? They're just trying to please their fans and put in little jokes that the brony community would understand. Not many shows try so hard to please their fan base like that. Just try to ignore the references if they bother you so much. Because in the end, it's still the same show.

Well like I said, I've got a problem with what is canon in the MLP universe and what is not. Too much pleasing the fanbase is a bad thing. And in the end I can't ignore them, plus I really don't want any kind of reference to that horrible fan-fic....

the answer is simply "no" Faust herself said that nobody on the show's staff is allowed to read fanfiction because it may somehow influence the shows direction.

What you see on the show is what's cannon. there are no fan-made influences.

Hope that answers your question

I recall hearing about Hasbro confirming a DVD release some time ago. Since the first season has ended, I don't think it'll be too much longer until we get some more info on a DVD and/or Blu-ray version.

Thank you. I'm not sure why, but I'm really attached to the characters and as long as I can say "that's just a fans idea, that character would never do that" I'm happy but when I start thinking the show may try and actually do something to the characters I freak out. I've seriously lost sleep over worrying about this show. I've never read that fan-fic but I've managed to piece together the story from what people have said about it. I sometimes wish I had never gotten so attached to this show or that I never learned about that fan-fic. I honestly know why I act like this towards FiM but for the sake of anybody actually thinking I'm sane and not delusional I'd rather not talk about. Instead I'll just post a link when I can find one.

I've read Cupcakes before. Its certainly not for the faint of heart

but if you do read it, then be sure to read the positive alternate endings. Those really do kill the horrible vibes that fic gives off.

oh, and if your insane enough to want to read that fic, look for it on Equestria Daily. they include all versions of the fic and all alternate endings.

Of course, telling someone NOT to read it is like saying "Hey, read this! Read it READ IT! I dare you!'

so my talking about it is not helping matters much xD

Trust me I do not have any intentions what so ever to read it. To be honest I've haven't read any of fan-fics at all.

Edit: Well I to be honest I am officially done with Equestria Daily, personally I never really liked their attitiudes over there. Oh and yah, by talking about the fan-fic, me and you are only really making it worse. If you wouldn't mind can we stop? I don't want to be rude and I'm not trying to be but, I'm curious now, even though I wont read it ever. I guess it's ok to talk about it in this thread I, would just personally like to stop.

Good, I suppose. If ever you do get curious, however, you should at least give Cupcakes a quick look (before eating anything). It's the only pony-related fanfic I've read so far. If FiM's staff genuinely isn't allowed to read fanfics then they definitely haven't been able to read it with official consent.

Well alright I can't find a link but trust me it is a valid scientific theory. I know this is going to seem well for the lack of a better word insane but the reason I've been acting like this towards FiM is because about three and a half years ago I came across a article about the possibilities of multiple/parallel universes. The article wasn't very in depth but I had recently been intrigued by the study of planets and the universe and all that so it was enough for me, the article pointed out a theory that stated because fictions existed as fictions then it would be theoretically possible that in a parallel universe a fiction could exist as a reality, and being in the state I was in (look at my user name), that was the greatest theory I had ever heard. Well since then I've always accepted the idea that if the Multiverse theory is correct then it may be possible that all my favorite characters actually exist and have a life, same goes for MLP: FiM. In my insane, whack-out brain, FiM isn't just a cartoon it is a representation of a parallel world and therefore I really worry about the characters and as such have a problem with what is canon and what is not. I certainly wouldn't want that fan-fic to be canon. I know what your thinking but to be honest it feels much better getting that off my chest. Apparently the theory is called Fictional Realism, I know I'm insane.

I've often pondered this theory. If you think about it though it would be like saying that a lie is somehow the truth.

I'd imagine that this theory would not be accepted by the scientific community. Its on the same level as ghosts and demons or anything paranormal. There'd also be the issues of physics and other types of logics that would not add up (Pinkie Pie does break the laws of physics after all)

but I guess to each of their own. If you want the world to exists. then by all means it exists! but only in your mind. until proven otherwise.

Thats true, I'm not too sure about the theory, even I question it sometimes. I've just been really attached to it because I always wanted to sorta exist in a fictional world. I doubt the theory has any merit, but I can help but flock to it for my own personal needs. Anywho the Multiverse theory isn't even proved even though it fits perfectly with String Theory, I think, so this one is probably regarded with little interest or seriousness.

Good grief, Fictional Realism? I'm probably going to reminisce about my countless hours lost contemplating theories of existence. Constructing outcomes for possibilities that could have occurred, had not certain events in history happened. I believe the theory is very much plausible... Oh, what has Fullmetal Alchemist done to my overly-open mind? ...eh, but that's a different discussion entirely.

I'm going to end up confusing myself, we should probably change the subject.
As enjoyable delving into thoughts of other worlds can be, try to focus more on this one. Our FLP:FiM is probably going to have a single outcome in the end.

Yah...I agree, we should probably change the subject. Anywho I must say, thank you guys, you helped a lot. This forum and the Equestria Forums (I just joined) help me greatly today, again thanks. I always have a lot of time to myself so I have a tendency to do a lot of thinking, which is probably why I have a strong connection to that theory. Anywho, going away from that topic, does anyone know when Season two will start?

Alright now I'm curious, where would I buy a ping-pong ball. No I probably shouldn't.

I might try doing that, just to see if anything comes of it. I've dabbled in meditation before, everything got weird, I felt light-headed, if I remember correctly. Anywho back on topic does anyone know when season two will air?

as far as I know, season 2 remains unannounced. it will be this year though.

also, dont take my word for it, do some research

According to Top Draw Animation's site, work began in April. Work on Season 2 is set to finish in December.

I'll assume we'll start getting new episodes sooner than that.

So the theory has a name. I have always been curious about it. But then again, if there are infinate universes where every possibility comes true, then yes Friendship is Magic is real, but then again there are infinate variations of that universe. Every idea already exists out there. Yes Pinkie Pie is a goofy hyper baker/party planner in some universes, in others she is the version from Cupcakes (I didn't like that story either. I try to stay away from the Grimdark fics). That story didn't create that universe, it was always there. Someone just came up with an idea that was similar to something that already exists, because EVERYTHING exists.

I played too much Myst.

About fan influence, I think that they try to keep fan influence to a minimum to keep it so it appeals to everyone. There is only one instance of fan influence that I know of, and that is Derpy Hooves. For those who don't know, the creators of Friendship is Magic tend to reuse background characters (especially in crowd scenes). There are many that fans have named and created personallitites for, like Lyra and Bon Bon, Carrot Top, Colgate, and Doctor Whooves (named after Doctor Who).

One such character is a grey pegasus pony with blonde hair with crossed eyes that the fans call Derpy. There are many different personalities that the fans came up with, from ****** (Bubbles) to handicapped genius (Words are Louder), to struggling single mother (Today, Tommorow, Forever). Fans usually dacribe her as the mailmare of ponyville (I'm not sure where that came from). The creators noticed how popular she was with the fans, and they agreed to include her more in season two. We still don't know what her name will be (Derpy Hooves, Ditzy Doo, and Bright Eyes are a few of the fan names), or what her personality will be like.

Of course not. Can you really see the characters from Friendship is Magic joking about Pinkie Pie being a serial killer?

Look at the graphics on that!

Yep, well done. So here's something else that's pretty dang awesome:

I listen to Don't Stop Me Now by Queen when looking at this. You can also use Rocketman. Elton John or Shatner, I don't care.

Added after 3 minutes:

Some mod please eliminate the bigger image above. I didn't know how big it was when I first posted it.

I feel the urge to watch a new episode, but knowing that I only have 2 left to watch makes me sad. Idk if I should wait to make it last longer or just watch them right now..?

I wish season 2 could start soon!

What's not to understand?
I don't know how to hide spoilers, so anyone who doesn't want the game spoiled, don't read the next paragraph.

Applebloom wanders into the Everfree forest while following a mysterious filly and finds a hidden village of ponies without cutie marks. She follows the filly to a house and finds the filly's body. The villagers killed her because she had found her cutie mark. It turns out that the village is cursed and all of the ponies she met there are dead. They chase her until they surround her. Then the filly who lead her there tries to save her and apologizes for trapping her there. All hope seems lost until Twilight comes and all of the ghosts vanish. The end.

I'm not trying to troll this thread or anything, so just listen for a second. I've watched numerous episodes of FiM and I just don't get it. And it's not that I'm not willing to give kid's shows a chance. I really don't understand what the fuss is about. Whenever I would watch an episode, I would go to Serebii and ask them what I'm missing, because their FiM discussion thread was what led me to giving it a shot. They would tell me that I'm watching the wrong episode, and they would suggest another one. I watch that, and once again, I don't like it. They tell me the same thing: Watch another one. And this kept going on and on. So I decided to turn to this forum instead. What's so good about FiM, really? And don't just say ''Just give the show a chance, you might like it!'' because I've given the show a chance.

Well, the show has some awesome and well developped characters, the scenarios and dialogues are clever, there's a fair deal of good humor that is often aimed at an older audience and the animation is really good. Also, it's hella cute!

But really, you don't HAVE to like it too. It's still just a tv show, not everyone has to like them. Maybe that show just isn't meant for you.

I suggest you just go through the episodes in order, so you can grow attached to the characters, and if you don't like it, it's fine, just leave it there! ^_^

Okay, this thread needs to liven up a little... This website

Pony Reaction Pictures

Has plenty of pony images. I think this thread would be a lot more fun (funner?) if we used them!

Note: some of the images are very big, but I'm too stupid to figure out how to make them smallerWithout photoshop... You guys will figure it out!

As for making the pictures smaller, moop205, just use Picnik.

Today, I was at Zellers and saw a few of those mini plastic pony figures. I had to hide them under an operation bosrd game untill I got to the till to avoid suspicious looks. I did get one from the indian guy at the till, but, he probably didn't understand the magic of friendship... Anyway, I got Twilight, Applejack, Pinkiepie and Rarity. Way better than those stupid long haired ponies dolls...

For a fandom like this, you pretty much have to be tremendously awesome. Same goes for most things that involve voice acting. Lots of voice actors are just unbelievably awesome.

So, I thought this was completely stupid.

Then I went to YouTube and watched two episodes back-to-back without moving an inch. Darn you all!

That's pretty much how it goes. You wonder why people are watching a show for little girls and next thing you know you're singing along with Pinkie Pie.

Makes me wish I still had my My Little Pony pony from McDonalds from back when they gave every gender the same toy.

Edit: I found a picture!

I'm just realizing that I played with this at age 6. Wow.

How Applejack continuously rates lowest favored pony in polls will forever elude me.

Because she's kind of just there. Everypony else has some kind of thing that makes them noteworthy or super awesome, even to an outsider, but Applejack is Applejack.

I actually find it helps to think of AJ as the Batman (or Batmare, as it were) of the Justice League that is the Mane 6. No evident super abilities like the magical unicorns, the flying pegasi or even Pinkie Pie who is a regular earth pony capable of teleportation. Still, she's strong, is a good shot with apples and has farm equipment at her disposal (Batman's "toys"). Plus, no parents around. Hello?

I just spent $30 on WeLoveFine's 20% Cooler shirt. I know it's terribly overpriced, but I just couldn't resist...

Damn I'd like to have that shirt!
But I don't know if I'd have the guts to wear it in public!

▲ Oh I haven't a care in the world for what other people will think. If someone really loves a series as much as they say, they'd be willing to wear some merch out in public. Besides, it's not as if I'll be wearing this.
