All of you having the Carpal Tunnel feeling, you really should look into getting one of these for Mario Kart 7. xD

Similar situation for me. I can not feel my thumb anymore. And my thumb is very smooth now from holding down Y all day. Also the right corner of the 3DS digs into my palm so I have a nice dark mark. I think I have to get that grip.

Im curious about the etiquette on Maka Wuhu, do you guys never use the glitch? Use it if you see someone else doing it? Always use it?

I was in the "Use it if someone else is" camp(impossible to catch up by playing fair, and I don't like cheaters to guarantee a win), but people have been faking me out more and more, I was hoping that by queuing in the 3DSBlog community I wouldn't see people using it, but Maka Wuhu (and luigi circut for whatever reason) are the most commonly picked maps...

I refuse to do it at all. It defeats the point of the games. Hate having it used on me but meh they are basically just saying they can't win without it.

I used the glitch in Time Trials to see the effect it had on the overall time but I don't personally use it online.

Gold Kart Parts

Here are the Gold Parts you can unlock in Mario Kart 7:
  • Gold Glider - StreetPass 100 peeople / OR collect 10,000 coins
  • Gold Standard Kart - Get a VR higher than 10,000 points / Or collect 20,000 coins
  • Golden Wheels - Beat every cup and Mirror Mode on on all speeds and receive at least 1 star on each cup

also, you keep getting parts until you hit 10,000 coins. so that means you will eventually get the demonic glider and whatnot

I kind of wish they brought back the gold car model from DD instead of standard, but it's still good.

I am currently using Zucchini Kart with standard wheels and Swooper Glider.
Every time, I have online multiplier race to play so I tend to be second or first place for the most of time but one race I was one yard away from finish line. I was hitted by Blue Shell and thought I could make to finish line as second but... Bom-bomb landed on me and I got last place in 7 sec.

Damn those Japanese racers!

Got at least 1 star everything, and only have 1 star on 4 of my cups, so I'll probably have at least 2 stars on everything tomorrow.

3 is going to be rough on mirror mode though =|

Of course some kid has. I've played for 40 hours and only have over 4000 coins.

Does anyone know what the best kart combination is and with what class of character. I can't beat Toad Circuit Expert Ghost for the life of me. It seems impossible to get 1:26.

Honey Bee in the Gherkin/Blue 7 with Gold Wheels appears to be the fastest for me.

And thanks for the info on the gold stuff, that has made me feel better, it is all achieveable for me.

For Time Trials, the best character/kart combination should basically always be Heavy/B Dasher, for the highest speed boosts and B Dasher's Handling boost to cut down time on corners.

The wheels are a bit more variable. On a long straight track the best wheels are Gold/Slick for the huge speed boosts. On a course with lots of tight turns, Mushroom Wheels are awesome for both a speed and handling boost.

Those will get you the best times. However, this isn't necessary. It's still possible to beat the Expert Ghost Data with other karts, just slightly more difficult.

Mushroom/Slick Wheels are better. Both have speed boosts, whilst the Mushroom Wheels have a high handling boost and Slick has a far higher speed boost. This makes slick a better choice on Luigi's Raceway, but Mushroom equally viable on a course like Maple Treeway.

The thing with Time Trials is that speed and handling are the only important stats. Off-road is theoretically viable but nowhere near as useful. Acceleration and weight are pretty much ignorable, unless weight affects your gliding as has been alleged.

Gold Wheels aren't unlockable by coins; they're unlocked through getting a star rating in every cup and Grand Prix.

Also, those parts aren't necessarily the best for online races. Most parts are viable due to items etc., and acceleration and weight as stats are significantly more useful. Time Trials requires a slightly different set of skills than racing - Time Trials is all about attaining the optimum racing line and is heavily dependent on Speed and Handling. Racing requires a more varied skill set (e.g. Acceleration is next to useless in TT but is useful in online races), less technical skill but significantly higher awareness of the other racers and items around you.

Very nice VR, I've been focusing on getting 3 stars in single player but its proving to be too rough for me, on mirror mode I only have 2 cups with 3 stars.

I keep trying and failing on the others...

I managed to get 3 stars in my first 2 days playing, 50 and 100cc were easy enough, 150cc Special Cup gave me a lot of grief but everything else, including mirror, was surprisingly smooth - certainly easier than MKDS!

Currently I guess I am just working on coins while playing online. I hope just my ranking and coin totals will improve over time.

I'm still loving Lakitu with the Soda Jet and Gold wheels. What is the best kart for time trial again?

Oh, and I bought one of those grips for the 3DS just because my hand is starting to hurt so badly. :P

So every time you get something rewarded for collecting coins. You have a random kart/wheel/glider? I got cloud kart when I first got 100 coin to unlock. I think so.

The intervals for getting parts gets larger later on though. It gets rough trying to grind for coins.

I just grind on 150cc to get all the coins. I use online for when I get a little bored.

Coin intervals begin at 50 per unlock, and gradually increases to 100, then 200, then 500. From the Ghastly Glider to the Gold Glider is a difference of 5000 coins, and then a difference of 10000 coins to get to the Gold Kart.

So yes, you're going to have to grind. I personally use the 100cc Shell Cup - 50cc is too slow, 150cc is difficult to get 10 coins in without deliberately coming last, at which point it ends up slower anyway.

Also, getting VR isn't that hard when you pick Wuhu Mountain to exploit the glitch, is it 13luckoftheirish13? :P

If you can't beat 'em, join them. -_- I don't want to use it but you kind of have to, otherwise you come last. :-/

Wait, so the gold kart is 10000 VR and the gold glider it 10000 coins?

In all fairness... Wuhu Mountain is a fun track. I wouldn't know how to cheat on it but I don't think I'd use the glitch anyway.

I really hate that people keep voting for that horrible rainbow road track all the time. It's like the worst of the worst of all the tracks in the game.

Wuhu Mountain is okay, or rather, was. It's frustrating when I race normally, but someone finishes using the glitch way before me, so the blue shells target me when I'm in 2nd at the top of the mountain. If a lot of people will start glitching, I'll do it too, I won't tolerate losing to those idiots.

Which rainbow road? I love the SNES one. The new one, not so much. It's okay but a blue shell can be torture there.

Because on 100cc or 150cc I can't seem to get to any sort of decent speed without falling off the edge every 10 seconds. And the annoying angry-looking blocks keep getting in the way and you can't drive around them when they're on the ground. And the passive-aggressive color scheme gets on my nerves....

I've been racing on that track since I was a kid playing it on my SNES, the SNES Rainbow Road is still the bane of my existence.

I rather like the new one though, especially the music once you hit the moon and 3rd section.

Just keep practicing you'll get it. Or change your kart combo. It's really not that hard. Compared to the original version this one is a million times easier.

Well, if you improve, it won't be a problem. There is a tiny space around the blocks where you can drive. The color scheme really stings in the eyes, but it's an epic old track after all, one simply must respect it. The music is still amazing. I like that it's still a track that requires skill to win.

I always have to turn off the 3D (if I'm playing with it on) when this track comes up, it burns. Also theres a lot of ghosting on the 3D effect on this one.

I haven't seen any ghosting at all in this game. Not like Zelda and Mario 3D Land, those games have super ghosting.

I always use 100% 3D when playing any game. I just love the 3D effect, Mario Kart 7 has the coolest 3D I've ever seen. It really feels good. When I turn it off, I start blinking awkwardly as my eyes try to adjust to see 3D; I literally feel as if I'm holding my hand over one of my eyes, since it's suddenly all so flat and depthless. Now that's awesome.

I don't have 3D land so I can't speak to it, Zelda had spots of ghosting but it was rare for me, and Kart only really has done it on this track for me, I don't know why.

It's because the rainbow road is brightly colored, but the background is black. Whenever something's made in depth, where one bright object is next to something dark, that bright object will have ghosting. It's because the light is too strong so it escapes and reaches both eyes at once. Just a small issue with this 3D type.

I'd say 3d land and OoT have the most visible ghosting from what I've seen. SF643d actually didn't really have that much.

SNES Rainbow Road is my favourite course in the game. It's so simplistic and yet so fun.

I'm sorry but when there is a race with 7 other people over 3000 VR with me and 5 or 6 of them use the glitch then I am not gonna continue on and lose points. I hate glitches and hacks but to be honest this is one that if you don't exploit then you lose basically. You come 4th several hundreds of times in a row on that track then and tell me that it is not annoying.

This isn't some little harmless glitch, it is a big gaping one and while it is still there I will use it if needs be and I won't feel guilty about it provided others use it too. I reckon loads of people on here have used it and they just won't admit it, they instead patronise others for using it to make themselves look good. I'm over 5000 VR now and I want to keep expanding those points. Wuhu Mountain Loop comes up and I am not gonna settle for last.

On the bright side I've completed all my tires now, just got the slicks with 4500 coins. Only a couple of hundred more until the new glider. And I finally got my cloud kart!

What is so non-enjoyable about it? I find it one of the best tracks in MK history. At least that goes for the original, the remake of it is a bit easy.

That is hard track for me especially if I use Shroom. You'll fall off the edge.

If you have a mushroom use it on the ramp between the two Thwomps, or use it during a drift. Those ways you won't fall off the track.

I don't really understand this when it comes to online racing. I was in a group where everyone in it had a much, much higher VR than me, but I was beating them by almost half a lap on each course picked. Then I left and joined another group, the people there had really low VR, some even had under 1000, but I kept placing around 3th-6th against them no matter what I'd do.

How can I beat more skilled people, but lose to n00bs. xD I just hate being in groups with n00bs who go mental all over the place using items, destroying themselves too as they get you.

I refuse to extensively play online until I've gotten 3 Stars on every Grand Prix in each mode. I'm trying the Star Mirror Cup now. I am so behind everyone on VR... Oh well.

Higher VR doesn't necessarily mean more skilled.
It could simply mean that the person has been playing for many, many hours and slowly accumulating it.

Among other things, people can be super skilled, but just started the online part of the game, hence the low VR.

Simply put, VR is a measure of experience, rather than skill. It's like those times when 10th prestigers get whipped by a Lv.6 in CoD.

This is pretty much it. There's just more chaos racing with n00bish people, since they spam their items constantly, fail with them and pick up the same lucky powerful items again and again, ruining the game for everyone around them, instead of using them when it's going to benefit them.

You really need to hurry up and get in on the online races. You don't need to have 3 stars, really. I rarely ever see anyone with them.

Wait.. Let me get this straight. If people use items in such a way that they annoy you, they are n00bs? I thought that was pretty much the concept of items in the first place. To pester the other players...

But I'll pay attention and try to learn the MK elitist's way of using items from now on.

lol.
They are n00bs because they keep getting awesome items that they use to f*** up others with, but they still always end up placing last anyway. Which means they suck *** but they keep ruining the race for the skilled people.

If you rage every time someone rams into you with a Star then may I ask what on earth you're playing this game for?

Mario Kart is and always has been equal parts luck and skill. Players who aren't happy with that setup should simply go play Gran Turismo or Forza Motorsport.

You obviously never played Super Mario Kart or Mario Kart: Super Circuit. Those games were hard, it took a lot of skill to win and items couldn't ruin that if you were good enough.

We don't rage whenever somebody does, we only rage when the worthless idiots who place last no matter what they do does it. It's like, you lose anyway, why bother us? lol

I like to vent about the crap that happens in Mario Kart. It's frustrating, yet addicting at the same time.

I have good times when nothing too bad happens and I win, but there are other times, when the most unbelievable things ever happen. I'm in 1st place for an entire race, right up until the finish line and I get raped with items until I come last. Stuff like that makes me wanna throw my 3DS, but I get over it 5 mins later. xD

Funny statement from someone who basically said that "if you haven't played previous Mario Karts then don't bother playing MK7 online because you'll just be spoiling the fun of the real MK players".

So much misguided superiority among the Nintendo fanchildren. Some things apparently never change.

That's a weird way to interpret what I said earlier. I said that the previous Mario Kart games weren't as luck based, that's all. The people who always place last but keeps ruining the race for the people in lead are annoying as f***, but I never said they aren't allowed to play the game. I guess you feel targeted since you confessed that you suck at Rainbow Road, lol.

And I'm no Nintendo fanboy, so your pretty little words won't bother me.

There.. You said it again. People like me who are just getting started (and as a result place last more frequently) are ruining the race for you uberleet MK players because we actually *gasp* use the items we're given by this game.

Why don't you complain to Nintendo that they sell this game to noobs?

1) Don't assume. I've played every Mario Kart since SC, although I admittedly haven't played N64 or SNES.
2) Worthless idiots? Seriously, you need to calm down. It's a game, and whoever wants to play it can play it. And just because a person is more reliant on items than driving technique does not make them worthless. Like it or not, this game is NOT Super Circuit, and complaining about every time you get whipped by a player you perceive as worse than you gets you nowhere. Suck it up, because it's going to happen again, and again, and several times after that.
3) People need to play to get better. You would have been one of the people who place last no matter what when you first played Mario Kart, and you still would be if you went into a room of better players. Does that make you a worthless idiot? No, it just makes you a worse player. And classifying all worse players as idiots IS elitism, and of the worse kind.

Well said, I'll give you that. I word myself a bit too harsh when I'm annoyed, it's a character flaw of mine. (now that sounded like Ghirahim uninentionally hah) anyway, I personally get quite annoyed when I have a secure win but people going nuts with items mess it up in the last second. It just feels unfair. That's not hard to understand, is it? But I take back calling them worthless idiots, that wasn't fair, I know.

I don't really like the way MK has long since turned too much into a luck based game series, but with that I'll try to change my philosophy to "winning ain't everything".

I find it easy and fun. I can use mushrooms practically anywhere, even around corners. Just drift. The only thing I don't like is a slipstream that catches you off-guard, it's tricky.

I got 5000 coins and the new glider finally - it looks awesome. Is there anything given for 5500 or 6000 coins?

Nope. You have all parts now except the gold parts. You get the gold glider at 10,000 coins, the gold kart at 20,000.

Well, that's just not how you win. Staying in first is just begging to be hit with a blue shell. What you should be doing is staying in the middle until the last lap, then destroying everyone.

Or gold kart at 10000 VR?

I'm at 6700 VR right now, getting a lot closer to my 10000 VR target. Are the VR points capped eventually?

Don't know if anyone else will, but I find this interesting.

The banners around the track have the words "Music Park" on them, even in versions of the game where the track is called "Melody Motorway".

Finally broken 7000 VR, I'm on my way to 10000. Coins though I need another 4000 or around that. I think the Coin Farming Community will come in super-handy.

I <3 Ghastly Glider.

EDIT: 8200 VR now. 6000+ coins.

I'm working on this too. It's tough though. You must be really good to have beaten them this fast. I've only beaten four so far.

I think I beat 4 or 5 Expert Ghosts first try when trying to beat the normal ghost then gave a feeble attempt at beating another few before I got tired of trying - they are annoyingly good.

I personally found Cheep Cheep Cape and DK Pass the hardest. Toad Circuit and Rainbow Road (Not SNES, that one was easy) were reasonably tough too.

Yessss, 9300 VR, 10000, I'm coming to get you! I hope to reach 10000 VR by either tomorrow or Wednesday.

You are so frustrating Flub!!! :P Every time I JUST manage to get into first I always get hit by a blue shell - my luck has been totally rubbish all evening, I am getting beaten by everyone left, right and center, I think my new kart combo is unlucky.

I'm really struggling to find the right kart for myself, one with a good balance. So far no kart I have tried has really worked amazingly and felt great for me. I am keeping it mixed up but some really are working a lot better than others. After a whole afternoon of playing pretty much exclusivly in the Soda Jet and Bruiser with lots of different wheels I can say that they are not for me. I'm getting desperate, I may have to use Honey Queen as a character soon. -_-

lol.

Just had a few races with ♪Sebastian, Dan, Rentaline, Konnor, 3DGabriel... and I don't know who the other two in the group were. I suspect they were just random people not from here.

'Twas fun and I did a lot better against you guys than I do against random people online.

No, they don't suck. It's just when I race against randoms online, I get destroyed so much. The random groups I join always seem to be filled with annoying chaotic n00bish people. They just go mental with items and there's always twice as much lightning and blue shells involved.

this all happened in the air while gliding to the sandy beach before the finish line.

That wasn't really me you were racing with on Wuhu Mountain, I was taken over by a bot because I quit. I hate doing Wuhu Mountain, it's boring and most people just uses the glitch. I don't bother racing on it. xD

It took me about... 2 ? days to achieve 3 stars on all Cups. I had the most trouble with the Mirror Leaf Cup thanks to Daisy Cruiser. I seriously hate that track, especially when it's reversed.

13luckoftheirish13, you mad? :P

Also, I found Mirror Leaf Cup the most difficult as well. I don't dislike the tracks, it just took a couple more tries to triple star it compared to the others.

I've seen most people say the Mirror Special Cup was the hardest, so it's good to know I wasn't the only one who found the Mirror Leaf Cup the hardest to do, too. xD I'd flawlessly do both Kalimari Desert and DK Pass, but when I'd get to Daisy Cruiser, I'd end up finishing in 3rd or 2nd place with barely any coins almost each time.

Yeah, Mirror Leaf Cup was also my last one. Daisy Cruiser and Maple Treeway (for me, at least) were killer.

Indeed, for some reason the bots are nuts on those two tracks. One blue shell at the end and they'll steal the win. Gotta love how they adapt to your driving speed... driving unnaturally fast to tail you.

I'm on Mirror Leaf cup now, I will not go on to Mirror Special until I have 3 Stars.

NEVER.

Darn this is hard.

Yeah, I was the same, I don't move on until I have got the cup I was doing to 3*, no exceptions.

3* on 150cc Special Cup was my hardest, it took be about 5+ tries.

On my way to beating the Expert Ghosts now, currently doing all the new courses and got most of them first or second try but some are proving very tricky so far. Such as:

Toad Circuit
Cheep Cheep Cape
Shy Guy Baazar
Wario's Galleon
Koopa City

... all the rest were pretty easy.

Any tips for the above list?

for neo bowser city (well koopa city for you) drift as much as possible so snake if needed, and if you still cant do it use the b-dasher with slick wheels with a heavy weight charcter, best TT combo IMHO also take the short cut with the glider at the end of the lap (kinda like the resort track but this short cut helps you )

Already doing all that, though I am maybe just losing some time in Koopa City as I cannot complete some drifts. I'm sure I'll get it eventually, though Toad Circuit and Koopa City are killing me especially - the rest I didn't play for too long because I didn't think it was worth the effort.

I don't know, it's kind of hard to say. Sure, a lot of them are pretty good at it, but I've also faced heaps of them who have sucked really badly at it. I have also faced a lot of people from European countries who have been just as good. I think it just seems like the Japanese are superior at it because the majority of people online are from Japan.

Yea, I'd say this. I've played against some specific ones that were really tough to beat, and then some that were just really bad.

Same here. The Japanese are some of the best but then again I have played some pretty damn good Europeans, especially those dastardly Germans. :P

It seems to me that the German, Japanese and in some cases actually players from the UK have challenged me more than anyone else. Equally though I have met some terrible players from these countries. :P

I've come across some Germans and French who have been more of a challenge than most of the tough Japanese people I've played against. I've yet to play against someone challenging from my own country. XD

I wonder if people find it more of a challenge to try to beat each other for nationality reasons.

I think the nationality of opposing players can to an extent affect first impressions - I know I usually expect Japanese players to be more competent than players from other countries. However, once the game starts I don't think it really matters, and there are good and bad players from all countries.

Also, I achieved a time of <1:50:000 on Rainbow Road today. Not particularly great, especially in comparison to WR players, but I was proud.

The more I play this game the more I really miss VS. I just miss that ability to play just one course with the CPU's.

I have an alpine pass craving...

The more i play this game the more i start hating the luck based crap -,- Really getting 3 stars is just .... *sigh* 40 points 36 coins in total and 2* I mean why would they make you get 40 coins to get 3 stars? Its so fking stupid, Final lap i get hit by a blue shell, When i finally get first again right before the finish i got hit again but managed to shoot and hit a green shell on the 2nd place so i still managed to finished 1st with 7 coins. i mean come on.

Believe me i like a challenge. But this isnt a challenge its all about luck its just stupid. 3 races. not a single blue shell. Then the last race in the cup and you get TWO blue shells in the final lap? and i also notice blue shells are more common to occure when i am in the 1st place instead of the CPU

Yeah... I finally got the game. And finishing with 10 coins is luck-based. The game tends to love to throw in a Blue Shell or Lightning Bolt right at the end of the track on the third lap, and unfortunately, most tracks don't have many if any coins toward the end of the track... So it's luck based. Completely and totally, and that is very annoying.

I disagree. There is an element of luck but it is not entirely luck based. I once got blue shelled 5 times in one race in 150cc and I still won and ended up with 3 stars.

Yeah, luck based problems will always occur where the game is deliberately designed to be advantageous to those in lower places but it's not exactly an insurmountable problem when it comes to getting triple stars. Also, the point of triple stars is that they're supposed to be very difficult to obtain. If the game made it easy then they wouldn't be worth as much to you.

I sucked on purpose on one race last night for lulz. On the final lap towards the end, I picked up Lightning, then a Star, so I just blasted through everyone. The person in 1st place was Blue Shell'd, plus the person in 2nd was caught in the blast allowing me to win the race.

That was really tragic and I felt kind of bad for the two who would have placed 1st and 2nd when I didn't really deserve that win.

Oh, and i played 150cc cups at first and i got 3 stars on everything (well, i got 1 stars rank in the special cup, but not bad for my first try on this game).

I'm trying to get the Golden Wheels and just got 3 starts on Mushroom Cup 50cc (wasn't really a challenge though with Shy Guy Bumble-V Mushroom Wheels and Flower Glider.)

You would think that the Golden Kart plus wheels plus glider would equal the master kart. But if you look at each element's statistics, it's actually just a pretty average one.

No you wouldn't. You'd think that the kart would either be good or bad for you dependent on the stats, but not that it outclasses any other, because you'd hope for the game to have some semblance of competitive balance.

I'm making a referance to the fact that the kart, when combined with the other parts looks good, but isn't really worth the trouble, especially when you unlock some pretty awesome combinations near the beginning of the game. But you are right, it may be the "master Kart" per say, if the player likes the combination.

If you want the proper stats for the golden kart I have pictures of mine along with stats in my 'Finally - 10000VR' thread.

3 races. PERFECT. 4th race. Someone fired a blueshell, i wanted to brake. at that moment i got hitted by thunder, Which made me land on my red shell, And by the time i could drive again. SWOOSH Blue shell. Dropped me into the depths of the earth.

Indeed. not luck based, That was just bad "luck" i assume.

I am positive. If Mario Kart 7 was all luck I would not have 11900 VR or all GP's 3* quite this fast. If you can get ahead of the pack enough with skill then any bad luck you may have doesn't matter so much.

Perseverance!

If mario kart was ever about skill, everyone would have the three stars. And the reason people say it's based on luck is because no two races are the same. You may have a perfect race with no items at all, or a race in which every three seconds a shell hit you. Luck of the item boxes.

Mario Kart 7 has an element of luck. Anyone who tries to argue with that is a moron. However, there is an element of skill that offsets that luck. Granted, no skill in the world will let you win every single race, but a skillful player will be able to minimise the impact of luck on the game.

Luck has been involved with Mario Kart in the entire series, I don't know why some people are making it seem like they are now just shocked by this.

The game has a high luck based, there's no denying that, but there is skill involved and if you can't beat the CPU players to earn a 3 star rank, then I'm sorry to say, you're either just not skilled enough or there's something very wrong with your character and kart set up.

At first I felt like the element of luck was way too extreme, but now I don't find it too bad. It's more annoying and luck based online because when I do offline races against the CPU players on 150cc now, I just sit in the lead 90% of all the races, even when getting blue shelled lots.

I also don't even have a super fast kart set up. I mostly just use DK in the Bumble V + Wood Wheels + Flower Glider.

What I have found most frustrating about the "luck" based elements is that sometimes, it seems almost as if the CPU wants to see you fail.

._.
Luck is a large factor but it is no more than 50% in my eyes. It's ridiculous to say that if MK was only about skill everyone would have three stars because they wouldn't - everyone has different skill levels.

Yuoke is right, MK has always had an element of luck, particularly in Wii, so I don't see why this is surprising to you. I can still win race after race no matter what is thrown my way, and to be honest every time I don't come first now I blame myself and not the items - I should have been more prepared, quicker and used better strategy.

To be honest, strategy is a large part of the skill of the game and if you don't have it you won't win a lot. Going back to 150cc I can get 3* every time now, no matter what items come, because I have trained and practiced more and I am becoming more skillful at the game. To say luck gets you 3* is ridiculous in my eyes.

I feel like you've twisted my words around, or I just wasn't specific enough. I never said that Mario Kart wasn't about skill, which from my first statement might seem to be a lie, but I didn't word that just right. Mario kart is in fact, about skill. And yes, people might not have three stars if it was soley based upon skill. But based on the fact that items are incorporated into the mix, that person might not even place into the top three. That being said, I never said that luck would get you three stars. You just assumed that because I believe Items play a large role in the Gameplay, and end results. In fact, just the other day, a few seconds from the finish line, Peach pulled out a shell and knocked me clean into third place. If she hadn't hit me with that shell, I might have gotten into first place. This brought my score down to two stars. Using this example, luck does in fact play a major part in your three star ranking.

And this doesn't come as a surprise to me, because I have played every Mario Kart game, granted I never played the arcade version. So to assume that I'm shocked that items are affecting your score is rediculous.

The thread revive wasn't that great seens as it's already dying again. That said, it's a shame to see one of the longest threads in the forum decay.

Anyway, on topic of Mario Kart, I managed to get a Koopa City time of 1:52:958 today.

It is only a minor glitch to be honest, you get a mushroom and fly off a ramp into the sea but it is pretty hard to aim right and personally I don't think it is the greatest shortcut ever.

I had the most boring race ever a while ago. 8 person race, everyone (except me) was Metal Mario in the B-Dasher. It made me feel like I did in MKWii when everyone would use Funky Kong in the Bowser Bike.

I absolutely hate MM just for that reasons alone. No variety at all....

So they all dominated?

Yeah. I also hate the B-Dasher, it's just as over-used as Metal Mario. In every race I join, there's at least 3-5 people using it. It just tells me they aren't creative and skilled enough to use and be good with a combination they like. All they care for is having the best chance at winning.

Sort of. They were tough to beat since they're heavy and fast, but I still beat them... well, placed second... but still, it did feel awesome to beat most of them.

Yea, and the b-dasher isn't even that good, but really noobish for it's very leveled out based stats. At least the soda jet is more fun.

Yeah, the Soda Jet is cool and fun to use. I mainly use the Bumble V + Wooden Wheels with either DK or Yoshi. It may not be extremely fast, but it has great handling, acceleration and off-road which is more useful online than speed. The B-Dasher or any speed ***** combination is better suited for Time Trialing.

My combo is Rosalina+Pipe Frame+Gold tires+swoop.

I got 3 smexy stars and over 3400 VR. I was on wifi with a friend on MB, the room was filled with...lesser advanced racers. WML got picked, I suck at the shortcut and usually get last as EVERYBODY can do it. I got lucky and did it right... nobody else did so I owned them XD.

To look at things from a different angle, technically you could argue that going for Bumble V and Wooden Wheels isn't exactly original as it's just the combo that maxes out Hidden Stats. I personally use the Wooden Wheels for the amazing all round boosts, but there you go.

The Soda Jet is my favourite kart by a MILE for standard racing. It boosts Speed, Acceleration, Drift AND Mini-Turbo, which is a pretty amazing combination. It also boosts Sky Speed and Sky Handling, which are nice bonuses. These come at deficits of Sea Speed, Weight and Off-Road, but honestly the gain hugely outweighs the loss. It looks pretty sweet too, which is the reason I use it over karts with higher overall stats such as the Bumble V.

I'm so close to getting my overall time across all courses to under 59 minutes now, as I managed to shave 3 seconds off of both Dino Dino Jungle (now at a PR of 1:59:794) and Koopa Cape (Now at a PR of 2:20:147).

Is it even possible to get 3 stars on all Mirror cups? Never mind, I know it is. That was rhetorical.

But it's so hard! I do fine for the first 3 races. In fact, it's insanely easy; but then it happens: On the last lap of the last race. Your pulling around the last few curves. Your doing great! No one can catch you! Or can they? Suddenly on your touchscreen you see a Red Shell come out of nowhere! Then you notice the person in 6th place has a Blue Shell. You get hit with the red shell, then the 2nd placer, going impossibly fast mind you, bumps you out of the way. Closely followed by the 2nd placer. You didn't notice, but the Blue Shell had already been launched and now it's too late for it to change targets, so it blows you up. And you end up in maybe 4th if you manage to blow someone up with you and out-drag them.

It's a CPU conspiracy. Or in other words: it's rigged. Because without fail this happens. How can I avoid this?

1) If you haven't learned to trail items behind you to block incoming shells by now then you should expect to lose, and will get destroyed online.

2) Pick up coins. No racer goes impossibly fast.

3) Keeping an eye on the opponents items whilst racing is a skill in and of itself, and one you need to master in order to win consistently. If you didn't drop out if 1st place as soon as the Blue Shell appeared then you should realise it will end badly, and if the person in 2nd place is close enough to immediately overtake you after a red shell then you have time to drop back especially as the CPU's blue shell throws are delayed.

4) How is the 2nd placer closely followed by the 2nd placer? I don't follow.

5) lol rigged

I apologise if this comes across as rude, but the conspiracy you seem to have observed are just the machinations of the game in general, and all of which are machinations which can be overcome by players with practise. Lightning followed by an item bombardment is understandable, but your cause was doomed as soon as you said the initial item was a red shell. Triple Star on Mirror CC is perfectly plausible, and if you practise more then honestly you can get it pretty much every time without too much effort. The best tips are to play online to better practise trailing items, dodging items through course hazards (e.g. taking corners very tightly on GBA Bowser Castle 1 so red shells hit the corners) and playing on Time Trials a lot to get to better grips with every course (Although with Mirror you have to apply your Time Trials knowledge in reverse due to the flip). My friend was having difficulty with the 150CC Special Cup, mainly due to Bowser's Castle. I showed her a YouTube video of a good Time Trial on Bowser's Castle, told her to play on Time Trials on that course for an hour, and then play the Special Cup again. She got triple star first time afterwards.

Well, I guess it isn't exactly original, but I rarely ever see people using it online.

I see these combos online the most:

B Dasher/Slick/Gold/Red Monster/Mushroom/Roller

Gherkin/Red Monster/Mushroom/Roller

Soda Jet/Mushroom/Roller/Red Monster

I've tried out many combos with DK and I find the Bumble V + Wooden Wheels work and look the best. I like the Soda Jet + Wooden Wheels combo, but DK looks rather stupid and too big in it. xD

That used to be my main combo, except I used the Flower and Ghastly Glider with it.

I don't because it adds heaps of loses to your W/L ratio. What's yours? Mine is: 3361 wins and 932 loses. I'd say most of my loses are from not doing the glitch lol.

I use Wario + Roller + Growlster (aka Bruiser) + Ghastly Glider. I like how Wario looks so delighfully gay in any vehicle, he just doesn't fit anything. xD

2378 wins, 708 losses. If the game was fair and not so luck based, I'd have waaaaay less losses.

I'm on 4397 Wins, 1089 Losses. I use Luigi/Soda Jet/Wooden Wheels/Gold Glider or Ghastly Glider, dependent on my mood.
