Default Lifespeed: Futuristic Racing for the New 3DS

Release Date: This Fall
Price: ~$6 USD/per episode

Joininh the fledgling line of New 3DS exclusives is this futuristic racer from developer Wee Man Studios. It is expected to be released in an episodic format la Moon Chronicles 3D. As you can see in the footage below, you can race against other opponents and the developer is even promising an online multiplayer mode.

Being a fan of arcade racers, this makes me want to buy a New 3DS. But never mind me -- what are your thoughts on this game?

A recent interview by Nintendolife: http://www.nintendolife.com/news/201...acer_lifespeed

I wonder if this will get a JP release as I was recently thinking about getting a Japanese 3DS.

Sort of looks like the new FZero game that we will never get.

That's definitely one of the franchises it gets compared to the most. To me, it appears more similar to the AiRace titles on the 3DS, except you get to race against opponents and the tracks are more forgiving.

[sorry for the bump]

The game looks good, but I find the episodic release a bit of a strange decision business-wise. Not sure it will pay off, especially considering it is exclusive to the New 3DS, so the audience is pretty limited.

I'm waiting for either a non-bundled New 3DS or a Black-Fridayed Animal Crossing New 3DS bundle to jump in. I'm not interested in the New XL or Animal Crossing: Happy Asset-reusing Developer so I'll wait. But I'm excited for the game, I hope the framerate and sense of speed are good.

Thanks for the comment Yanikun. It is a shame I only just noticed your comment.

I'm in Japan right now, so I might buy a Japanese New 3DS to enjoy some of the region's exclusives. Wee Man Studios, the developers for Lifespeed even stated that plans are in the works to bring the title to Japan, so I should be good when it comes to that game.

Thanks for your interest in Lifespeed! We are in the last few weeks of development now (things took a little longer than expected!) and should be releasing in Europe, US and Australia early in the new year. Japan is also on the cards but may end up being a slightly later release date.

We are releasing in episodes because we are a tiny indie and its the only way we could afford to create all the tracks and stories that we want to release! The second episode is also going to have online multiplayer so that will add an extra something as well as new tracks and story.

Wow! It is not everyday a developer visits the 3dsforums.

Thanks for the update, Wee Man Studios.

I have since purchased a Japanese New 3DS so I will purchase your game once you get it out on the Japanese eShop.

Thanks a lot for making a complex racing game for the 3DS. The 3DS is in desperate need of more such racing games.

Wow, I never knew anything about this. This looks really good. I'm actually planning to pick up a New 3ds XL in the future and I might just get this along with it.

I agree with the last post. I wish there were more futuristic racers like this on dedicated gaming handhelds in general.
I also agree the episodic format is odd, unless it's something truly story based.

This does look awesome. Similar to FAST Racing NEO on Wii U.

According to their website, they are still dealing with bugs. It looks like we'll get to play this game this year, which is nice.

It looks like Wee Man Studios is done with the game (the first episode, at least). Their website suggests that the press will get another look at the game in the near future. Here's hoping it releases soon! Let's also hope it enjoys similar success to Shin'en's Fast Racing: Neo.

This looks pretty neat. Glad the New 3DS is getting more exclusives, but the episodic thing is kind of annoying.

With a New 3DS. The game is digital only, so you will have to download it off the eShop when it releases.

Speaking of the release, the game appears to be nearing completion. Fingers crossed that it fares well commercially when it releases.
