Pushmo [Review]

For Christmas, I was given an eShop card for my Nintendo 3DS. I lost my mind. I was SOOOO excited. With that card, I'd finally be able to buy Pushmo, which I'd been waiting to play for an extremely long time. I downloaded it the next day, and after playing it for about an hour, I realized how addicting it was. I'm no hardcore gamer. I mainly only play handhelds (as I feel handheld is almost always better), and this game reminded me that no matter how messed up the gaming industry is becoming, good games will still come around. To be brief, it's the best game on the eShop. The killer-app we've been waiting for.

STORY:
The story is extremely simple. You are a little fat creature living in a world with citizens that are just like you. This old man makes these puzzles where you pull out little blocks and climb to the top in order to save a little child, hidden inside it. It is very simple and reminds me of the simple games from the mid 80s to early 90s that never needed a complicated story-line in order to be fun. Definitely a 5 out of 5.

GRAPHICS:
The graphics are very nice looking. I've never really cared too much about graphics, but I can say that out of all of their downloadable titles on the eShop, this one looks the nicest. As for the 3D, I barely play my system in 3D at all, but when I play this game in 3D, it gives Pushmo a realistic sense of depth that is really satisfying. It looks pretty nice. I'd give the nice-looking graphics a 4 out of 5.

CONTROLS:
The controls are EXTREMELY simple. "A" lets you jump and "B" lets you pull out blocks (and, sometimes, "X" zooms in on the bottom screen). "R" gives you a full view of the Pushmo puzzle you're on and "L" lets you rewind what you did, just in case you made a mistake. The circle-pad and d-pad both work very nicely and do the exact same thing. I give the controls a 4 out of 5.

REPLAYABILITY:
This is maybe the best part of the entire game. You can go back and play any puzzles you want to again. That's not even the best part. Anyone can make their own Pushmo, and post a QR code online that if you scan it, you can save that Pushmo. Seriously, it never gets old. Whenever I'm bored, I go online and look for QR codes for the game. There's even a thread on here where people can post their Pushmo. Truly awesome. It gets a 5 out of 5.

FINAL WORD:
This is the best game on the eShop right now and one of the best 3DS games out there. If you have a 3DS and $7, get it. You won't regret it. Definitely better than FreakyForms (which I'll get to later). It has a few flaws, mainly spiking difficulty, but nothing I can't manage, and I'm sure you can too! This game gets a 4 out of 5.

By the way, my first review! Did I do well?

Default The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D [Review]

Ocarina of Time. One of the best games ever made. Can't really disagree. I've loved it ever since I played the GameCube one with my friend. I only played it once before I got my 3DS. It was actually the game that finally made me decide to get a 3DS when I did (otherwise, I'd have waited a bit longer). It's very hard for me to review this game unbiased, because when I was younger, this was my favorite (despite the fact that I barely remember playing it as a child). I'll try, however.

STORY:
Well, you play as a little kid named Link. He lives in a society of little children called Kokori, peacefully ruled by the Great Deku Tree. Link, after such a long time, gets a fairy of his own, and they travel to the castle of Hyrule to begin their journey to save the world. They run into the princess, Zelda, and she sends you off on your journey to save all of Hyrule. Before she can tell you what to do afterwards, she is unfortunately kidnapped by Ganondorf, the evil king of thieves. Link and his fairy must use the Ocarina of Time to save the world from Ganondorfs wrath.
I know. It sounds dumb if you've never played a Zelda game before. Trust me, it's not as bad as it sounds. It's actually one of the most fleshed-out storylines in the entire series. I give it a 4 out of 5.

GRAPHICS:
As I've said before (and I'll say in all my reviews), I'm not huge on graphics. I think that a game can benefit from good graphics, but I don't think graphics as important as some people seem to believe.
To make it short, I'll just say that these are the best graphics I've seen on a handheld so far (though I haven't played the new Resident Evil yet). It's one of the only games that I think the 3D effect makes a game look totally STUNNING. Seriously. I almost never play anything in 3D, but on this game, I thought it all looked amazing. While not on par with Skyward Sword, it's pretty darn close. I can only imagine how good this game would look if it were on a 4 gb. cart. Graphics get a 4 out of 5.

CONTROLS:
The controls are pretty smooth. The gyro-controls are truly a life-saver. I suck at aiming in shooters (or anything, for that matter) and originally, the Gerudo Valley part kept me stuck for DAYS on the GameCube. The gyro-controls got me through Gerudo Valley in a day.
You use "L" to target and you set specific items to certain buttons. Not much to it. Works like a charm for the most part. 5 out of 5.

REPLAYABILITY:
Oh, you hardcore gamers out there are going to love this! Once you beat the game once, you unlock "Master Quest". Basically, it's the game we all know and love, but the picture is mirrored and the difficulty is increased. I'm still trying to beat it in my spare time. It's extremely hard.
Also, there's lots of little side-quests in the game you can try your hand at that progress the story NOWHERE, but it gives the game a bit more of a realistic feel to it. After you do all of that though, you're pretty much done (unless, of course, you want to play the game again, which is a prospect I welcome). It gets a 3 out of 5.

FINAL WORD:
The ultimate version of one of the best games ever made. My only issue with it is that it's pretty expensive, but that's not the game's fault. It is currently the best game on the 3DS, and it's totally amazing. Of course, the game's pacing can be a bit slow for people who haven't tried this classic out before, and there are still puzzles in the game that stump me for a few seconds (and I'm the Puzzle Master!). I give this awesome remake of one of the most loved games of all time a 4 out of 5.

Well, for original content from the eShop, Pushmo and Mutant Mudds are the best you can get for your money.

By the way, I'm busy writing a few more reviews.
Shall I give the links when I'm done?

Great review!
IMO, I think you should just do e'Shop game reviews!

Default FreakyForms [Review]

Well, I hate to say "I told you so," but on another website, I was talking about how FreakyForms would be slightly sub-par. Nintendo brings us a game that's interesting enough to hear about, but when you're actually experiencing it, it's nothing like what you thought it would be. It's sort of like "Drawn to Life" except with less options, which is a bad thing. Instead of drawing your character, you drag shapes together to create your formee. The creation part does get pretty addictive, but you can only make a certain amount of creatures before you have to do what the game tells you to, which is generally boring crap that the game really doesn't benefit from at all. That makes the game more boring than it should be. There are quite a few issues I have with this game. Where can I begin?

STORY:
There is no story! n/a out of 5

GRAPHICS:
I normally never cared about graphics too much. They are nowhere near the most important element of a game, so I try to not pay too much attention to them.. The graphics are pretty nice for what this game is. As many of you already know, this game was meant for the normal DS, so it seems that the graphics are like enhanced DS graphics, but nobody said that's a bad thing. The graphics are everything you'd expect from one of these modern-day side-scrollers. The 3D effect adds absolutely nothing to the game at all, but that's okay because I barely play games in 3D anyway. A 3 out of 5 works, I guess.

CONTROLS:
My biggest problem with the game. You tap the touch-screen in the direction you want to go. What idiot came up with this, and why was that the only option? Once you get used to it, it works fine. Sometimes the controls are slightly unresponsive, but only rarely. 3 out of 5

REPLAYABILITY:
Like with Pushmo, you never have to be bored with this game. With the amount of options there are to creating new FreakyForms and scanning QR codes to save someone else's work, the amount of possibilities are endless. Even though I don't like this game too much, I still love being able to create lots of new and original things. 4 out of 5

FINAL WORD:
It's a cute game, but why get this when there are better games to buy for less than $10 on the eShop? If you want it, wait until you have something else to pass the time with, because I guarantee you this game will get a bit boring after a week. I give it the overall score of 3 out of 5.

Default 3D Classics: Xevious [Review]

Well, on the eShop of the Nintendo 3DS, there are lots of fun games. The majority of them are DSiWare games and classic games we've seen before. I have no problem with Nintendo re-releasing classic games on current-gen systems. In fact, I support the idea. It's things like what Nintendo is doing that makes me enjoy the 3DS more than any other handheld (though I love the PS1 Classics service on the PSP). My problem is the fact that most of the games release in the 3D Classics series (a series of ports of classic games enhanced with new backgrounds and such) are just crappy. Therefore, I'm glad to say, the definitive version of Xevious is now available on the eShop for an extremely low price. If you've ever been a fan of this game in the past or enjoy similar games (like TwinBee, for example), this is the best way to experience the game.

STORY:
I don't think there is one. You are a pilot shooting down enemies and bombing enemies on the ground. n/a out of 5.

GRAPHICS:
Especially good for such a classic game. Almost everything's been redone except for you and some of the enemies. The 3D effect is very useful in some parts. It helps you identify whats on the ground and what's not. It definitely looks very good. 4 out of 5

CONTROLS:
The controls are extremely simple. "Y" shoots and "B" drops bombs. Nothing more than that. D-Pad and Circle-Pad work exactly the same. Not much more to say. 4 out of 5

REPLAYABILITY:
You know how classic arcade games are. Once you win, you start all over again. There's really no incentive to go back and play again unless you want to experience hours of difficult fun. 2 out of 5.

FINAL WORD:
It is one of the hardest games I've ever played, and this is the best version of the game. I think it's brilliant. It's sort of like Star Fox, except you see your ship from above. Definitely worth the $6. Good luck getting anywhere with it. I've had it for ages now and I still suck at Xevious. It's a fun challenge though. Online leader-boards would've been cool, but maybe in a future update we'll get one. 3.5 out of 5.
