Ha, I love that the Nintendo staff have been messaging us lately, I hope this becomes a regular thing.

Awesome, thanks!

Didn't know about the new demo.
May try it out if I have some free time tommorow.

My thoughts exactly. It could be just a mere typo, but it could also mean we could be facing a reboot to the Legend of Zelda series sooner rather than later. It would be very sad to see the entire series's story thrown away. Let's wait and see what's in store for us...

I doubt a New Legend of Zelda would reboot the story. Just the gameplay. The plot of Zelda games runs pretty deep with the fanbase at this point (although a huge chunk keeled over when the "real" timeline was released. When didnwe hold dev word over game content before?) and a story reboot could possibly an international "Electric Soldier Porygon," if you catch my drift.

I'm honestly afraid of New Legend of Zelda. I acknowledge and appriciate all the good it would do, but New Legend of Zelda would probably bring with it a huge decrease in NPCs and plot in general. While the idea of swashbucking and taking on whatever dungeon you feel like is an awesome idea, it doesn't mean no plot. However, as a throwback rather than a return to form, it threatens to take the idea of a solid Zelda plot and kill it. New Legend of Zelda would also probably have sword fights like in LoZ-ALttP, which, to be honest, where bad. Combat didn't become a strong point of the series until OoT shook the world with L-targetting, and it takes all four Links in FSA in formation to replicate that kind of efficiency (and indirectly fun for some) in 2D. I'll be upset by a lack of plot, but if swordplay is weak just because the game is 2D, it'll probably join the ranks of PH and ST as odd handheld Zeldas (they, admittedly, had good swordplay marred by sharing the touchscreen with everything else ever).

Of course, the game itself is just speculation, and my fears for the title are born from ignorance. Nintendo could easily create a fan-pleaser and a killer app in one go.

tl;dr: New Legend of Zelda could bring back all the strong points of the old games, but paranoid Nitwit_Speed is rambling on about two (easily fixable) cons to a return to form. Stay away from that kid, he's weird.

^ Reboot means what to you though? You could argue each new Zelda is a reboot of the series, unless you're talking about taking the story in different directions.

I wouldn't say the story of Zelda is so ingrained in fans that it needs to follow a set formula, some of the best games in the series (Majoras Mask, Links Awakening) have completely different stories that never even involve Zelda or Ganon, and turn out to be some of the better stories in Zelda as a result.

Also when I think of the prefix "New" I think of New Super Mario Bros, which wasn't new, but a return to the Super Mario 3/World style we hadn't seen in a long time. If anything I'd say this would be a LttP-esque game if the prefix "New" really means anything (I don't think it does though, don't read too much into it.)

I only just got this Swapnote here in Australia, it's pretty cool. Maybe he could tease us with a scan of the game or something. :O
